Well Ive known a guy since highschool who has always been into 240z's kinda like how ive been into ltx cars. Well hes had one that was supposedly fast in highschool that would "pull ls1 Ws6's", another that was very nice but stock, and now he has a completely shitty looking (paint peeling and rusted to hell) one that he says will "drag my ass all over athens":brows:.
I mean thats what he really said. I was sitting at a redlight next to oreilly autoparts when he started yelling at me across the parking lot.:frustrated: So now Im convinced I have to make his cars butthole hurt really bad from what my car will do to it in a race.
I know that the car has a nice big intercooler sticking out from under the bumper and I can hear the turbo spool pretty loud. The car is very rough looking but I guess it could be a sleeper. Hes on the stock skinny ass wheels to so I know he cant get any traction what so ever if he is making the power he thinks he is.
Im guessing, and this is just a guess from what hes told me about his last builds, the car is probably a stock motor with a bigger turbo or maxxed out stock turbo. I doubt he can afford a built motor with a different head. How fast can these cars get with light mods? I know theres different color motors that are better than others like a red top b52 or whatever but I need to know how I will fare against him if I race.
He thinks Im still in my old car, which looks really identical to the one I have now. It was cold air intake, 373, flowmaster, ss3600, tune and a little suspension work. My car now is A LOT stronger than the last one I had before. IM gonna try to make it to the track in a couple weeks and will see what my car is actually doing. Im guessing Ill bust out a low 13 at around 105+. I may put a bottle on the car if I really have to.

depends on mods lot of pepole like to put ltx motor in em another trend that is picking up is sr20 swaps on a stockish motor (ie stock injectors piston turbo ect) thier is no way he can be runing faster than mid 13's i say go for it worse case he has a nice sleeper
oh yeah my wifes 280zx will be geting a rb24 motor from a skyline should easly make 400 rwhp

I see on average decently built SR20s running high 12s.
But if he has a turboKA24 you might be in some trouble. They can make lots of power. But I heard you mention spray plus full bolt ons and built tranny?
You should be able to take him.
Find out what he has, I might be able to help you, I know a decent amount about Nissans.

If hes that confident, it wouldn't surprise me if he's running a RB26 DETT in that 240. If he dose you better have a damn hot bottle. OR he's just a punk.... in that case make sure you get it on video

There's a fella with a 280Z over in Mobile with an RB25 running a big turbo and spray. We don't play with him, lol.
I thought they were just 240Z's, not ZX. I might be wrong.
I don't think SR20's and K24's came in the 240Z. Y'all are thinking 240SX.

I think he probably meant a 240SX. I believe you are right there weren't any 240ZX's. I think they started designating them with the "X" on the end when they went to a 2+2 setup.

Wow I forgot about this post. I was a little under the influence when I made it.
I haven't seen the dude around lately in his car. He has a bad habit of building cars that break down for very long periods of time. I know his half brother just got one identicle to his that's stock so i may have to play with him first.
I'm gonna try to make it to the track when I can find some slicks and see where I'm at. I'll eventually run back into him and I'll ressurect this post.

Yup, I couldn't find anything on the net which says the x denoted the 2+2. It was just something which I was told once upon a time.

So... are you talking 240z or 240s?
Not that it really matters... once you throw intercooler and turbo into the equation anyones guess is a crap shoot.
My 240z was a little quicker than any newer imports that I raced, but mine was just free mods. I mean, I'd walk most civics/CRXs/240sx... anything with a little more punch took some effort or luck.
Don't be fooled by "skinny wheels"... 245s fit just fine under a 240z, and I was cutting sub 2.0 60ft with a 245 in a heavier truck.
I really want to build a 240z... but have my hands full already.

I guess I meant SX. I always thought they were Z but I was wrong. All of these cars I see at the track have a very hard time getting outta the 13s and thats with slicks. I raced one in my old car and wouldve beat him if the car had a posi, and didnt suffer from wheel hop like it did. He was boosted and had Nittos.
If and when I do race him it'll be from a dig up to around 110 because thats the top of third for me and my cars a dog in overdrive and its also not to good on the tranny. I also know boosted cars LOVE topend races. On street tires I can launch pretty hard in first and only spin a few feet when I hit second so with some better tires I know I can get a hellacious launch, especially with some MT ETs that Im trying to jew a guy down on.
But I guess I basically have no hope though if he swapped to that other motor. The B-52 or whatever.

SR20? RB20? RB25? RB26DETT?
Don't insult the proud warrior that is the B-52 like that!

Figured I'd put this old thread to rest. Finally talked to the guy who owned the car. He blew it up so I guess that means I automatically win. Lol.

Congrats on the win lol. FYI, Datsun made a 240Z (2400cc), 260Z (2600cc), 280Z (you guessed it 2800cc). The 2+2 is a 4 four seater with a longer body than the coupe. The ZX showed up in the 2nd gen(early 1980's), when they started loading the cars up with power everything. As the engines got bigger 300zx, 350z & 370z.
