Great news all!!!!! the motor is coming out again, seems there may be a balance issue. Car vibrates alot. We think that the original owner had the motor balanced with his flex plate on it so my flywheel is not correct and cannot made to be correct unless we pull it and send it out.I am wondering if it's better jsut to buy another crank.

update...

so far we have seen that the intake rockers seem to be hitting thr springs...We are going with a stock trans mount for a test to see if the vibration goes away. the flex plate that was on it was not modified at all as far as we know so the stock flywheel should be weighed the same

haven't spoke to Rick, I know the intake was coming off to check the lifters, we are looking at the knock/valvetrain noise more than the vibe..I think the vibe is just the solid mount and the big cam

Didn't get to work on it last night but tonight I ran it for a little while, even backed it out of the driveway to turn it around the other way in my garage. Once it was back in, I left it running and checked the amount of oil coming out of the pushrods. There was no oil that I could see coming out and on both of my LT1s there's usually a good stream filling the middle of the rocker. As it was running I looked down to the lifter and could see a good stream of oil coming out between the outside/body of the lifter and the lifter bore. I went ahead and pulled the intake to see the lifters and check the cam lobes. The lobes on the cam look good. The rollers on the lifters all look fine but you can see some vertical lines forming on the body where it rides in the bore. What's everyone's opinion of putting the stock lifters back in? There wasn't anything wrong with them. Here's some pics and another video that shows the lack of oil. I threw in a stock lifter for comparison in the lifter shots.

hmmmm..... You should be slinging oil out everywhere while it is running. Sounds like the lifters are not pumping up the oil but you are seeing it slosh out from the lifter bore. Is it just one or two lifters or all of them? I would put a new set in, go with a set of GM stockers. What brand are those in there now? Comp/ GM?

Good luck with it.

It looks like all of them to me. The lifters in there now are Part# GP1011 from Gaterman Products LLC. Not sure where Lou got them from. I'm guessing it may be a reman'd LS1 set.

I spent some time on the phone with Comp yesterday talking about lifters and they say that all of their LT1 lifters are just like what we are using now which is basically the LS1 lifter. They suggested soaking the lifters in a solvent (mineral spirits or similar) before soaking in oil as prep for installation. I've always only soaked in oil and never had a problem but I can understand his reasoning. Now, the question is, do you think I could soak these lifters that we have (the ls1 ones that I just pulled back out of the motor) in a solvent and put them back in or start over with a new set and soak in solvent, then oil, then install? I'd hate to go through it with the ones we have already had in the motor and just have it do the same thing. If we go with new lifters Comp suggests going with their part # 350-16

I would say no...only reason I say this if it were one or two I could understand this, but if all of them are not pumping oil to the top, then I would thing the lifters are just not right fo whatever reason. Like you, I have always left mine in fresh oil overnight before installing into the block. I have heard of people using the LS7 lifter and comps so far. I would get a new set of comps or as mentioned before a new set through GMPP....maybe find someone seperating a hot cam kit or something like that.

Just some food for thought...... :)
