So, as many of you have seen, I have started many a thread re my next project.... either retired police car, or f bodys with lambo doors, or anything low budget but LT1... but I think I have finally decided what I want.....

If you already looked at the picture, then you prob dont have to guess.... I want the A-TEAM van!!!! Im sure I can build one for a fairly decent price, however here is where Im stuck..... should I do an LT1 in it?

Let me know what you think, Im weighing it out, but Im 98% sure I wanna do at least the van, maybe just a carb'd V8, but I think it would be even cooler with the LT1......

383 LT1.

do it.

If you build it, you HAVE to grow your hair out like Baracus and take pics!

turbo lsx just sayin

No LSX... Im staying true to the LTX platform... if.... i do the swap.

ANd I used to do my hair like that , beard and all when I would race my motorcycle at the track... I have pics or vids somewhere....

Now, I just need to find a 1983 GMC Vandura van G series.... ANyone know what years looked the same as a 1983, so I can broaden my search....?

I say stick with a carb'd V8, less wiring to mess with and much simpler. Plus the age of the vehicle you may have trouble getting inspection with an LTX unless you "know someone". Depends on the laws and how strict they are up there. You'll also have to remember to try not to hit anyone when firing your service weapon from the van since no one was EVAR struck by a bullet on any of the A-Team episodes ;). Sounds like a pretty cool project!

I agree with you. I will prob just stick with whatever power plant the van comes with..... I found a few vans already, now I just need to narrow down what wheel base length the real van/s were.

Im excited, I will prob put the money into making the exterior , JUST RIGHT, but Im gonna do my own thing with the interior, althought the big captain chairs are a must for the front.......!

Sounds interesting.... Complicated (especially exterior, gotta nail those details)...

But the payoff is worth it :D

I'm really not a van guy, but I have to admit it would be cool to roll up in the A-Team van (or one that looks damn close to it). A simple carb'd V8 would be much simpler as Ricehammer mentioned, but I'm sure with some fabrication, and time, and money, you could have an LTX under the hood if you really wanted to.

Something like this definatly wouldn't be my "cup of tea", but I can certainly appreciate wanting to do a project on something like this. I say if you've got the time, money, and will, GO FOR IT! :D This is the stuff dreams come from!

Thanks guys, and honestly, VANS are not my thing.... but its THE A-TEAM!!!!

5POINT7, I saw the UK one on a site that seems dedicated to building TV show cars..... That thing is EXPENSIVE...

Anyways, the 1st email I sent out was responded to, I just need to confirm which wheelbase I need... the shorter 110" or the longer 125"...... I cnt find a certain answer!

Hi Larry,

Thanks for contacting me. Its funny you mentioned the A Team van because that's what I was gonna do
with it lol. It even has a spoiler on the roof already :)
I actually gave up trying to sell it because everyone wants a brand new van for what I was asking for it.
It's the 125" WB. I just tuned it up including Accel wires :)
Both ad's are for the same van. It also has Chevy factory wheels on it. No major problems with it + the engine +
trans are tight. It does need the body work finished that I started. No major leaks.
The only reason I'm selling it is because I bought another Chevy van with a 5.7 because I have a trailer.
If you can use it I'll let you have it for $500 if that will work for you.

Thanks'
John

I would think that all of those vans will have Chevy 350's in them. I would just use that platform than try to adapt an LT1 with the wiring harness/pcm/gauges into a carbed platform.

I woulda thought so also, but I have found 6 ycl ones, and this one is a 305... Im not worried bout going fast right now... just want it to run and drive so i can work on it and get it looking right... then when the exterior and interior are done... then I will look into the motor options... maybe I will see if a BIG BLOCK will fit in it....

im pretty sure its the 125" you want larry and while probably 80% were 350's there were 6 different engines from 6's to deisels, even a 454,in my early years in plumbing i had a couple that were 305's:puke:

Did the 305s run decent enough? and thank you for the info. My girl and I were comparing pics of the 125" wheel based ones to the real a-team van from the show, and I think your right... there doesnt seem to be enough van behind the rear wheels on the 110's...

Big block it,turbo 400 and 12 bolt .... just so you could go play in it on friday nights. Then if a cop ever tried to pull you over be like "dude it's a van" :|

I will contribute to your van thread, can you think of one production vehicle that is still in production within the same plat form generation as it was when LT1s first came out in 1992?

Stumped?

The answer is the Ford Econoline, the third generation and current in production made it's debut initial debut for the 1992 model year.

Whats this have to do with your thread? Nothing, but I imagine since these vans stay in production so long, the amount of spare parts for them has got to be sick. Also vans look worse then 4th gens to work on

honestly not bad at all considering,i actually drove one for a while assuming it was 350 because it sounded decent with pretty ok power just to learn that it indeed was the 305,i think it had throttle body injection ,kinda sounded like when you used to flip the breather over for that 4barrel sound lol

I was, but an 83 GMC VANDURA is hard to locate, local..... and being that Chevy and GMC are the same, I will be able to swap over the grill and stuff... still gotta figure out what bumpers were on the ATEAM van, will have to fabricate the brush guard...windshield visor, a whole bunch of fog lights, the mud-flares and side steps, the quad side exhaust tips.... and then there is the correct rear spoiler I need to find... then its body work and paint

That would be so apropos, though! Think about it, everyone would fall over half dead when a man of color climbs out of the window! Kind of like the sheriff in Blazing Saddles wearing the sheet and pointy hat at the rally :D (I hope you know I'm just playing!)

On a separate note ... Year One needs to start producing the 69 Charger (I think that is what the General Lee was?? Dunno, I'm not a Mopar guy.). They could make a killing on those. I mean the Camaro versions and Mustang were great, but produce something you can't find anymore ... or at least the ones you do find are either so expensive no regular joe can afford it, or it's just a POS rust bucket you'd only be purchasing for the VIN tags.
