About a week ago I was cruisin down the interstate in the Formula in my sig, and saw a silver new Challenger SRT8 up ahead. I got up next to him just to give him a friendly rev. Next thing I know, he's on and of the gas just waiting for me to punch it. I figured I would have him no problem as we were doing about 70 MPH and 3rd and 4th gear in my Formula with its 441 RWHP pulls like a freight train. So I hit it in 3rd, and instantly grabbed about a car and a half on him. I drew a blank for just a second, forgetting how high I could safely bring the RPM's up before shifting. I slightly short shifted at about 6200 RPM (ideally I usually bring it to 6500-6600 when racing). 4th gear, he started coming up on me and by about 135 MPH or so he was in front of me by about a car or two and really moving!

The only thing I can think of is that he flipped the switch on a nitrous setup. But I don't know. It was an out of town car, and none of the local guys knows him or what was done to it. I was pretty impressed though that he pulled me like that in my mid 11 second Formula.

It only made me wish I was in my Z, then it wouldn't have even been considered a race

You got gassed. There's NO way that thing could have done that N/A to your setup.

Thats really what I am guessing. I really would like to know for sure.

I hate loosing!! :alucard:

Absolutely no way that thing was stock. They are pigs. Try accelerating 4100lbs from 90-130. I'll have to investigate this one for sure.

To think you will never loose is blasfamy. There's always someone faster out there. I know of an Orange SRT8 Challenger in town that is Procharged already. But this guy was not one of the local guys, and no one seems to know who it was. I think I caught him driving somewhere (although I can't remember catching his plate).

Since he hasn't been seen around town since then, I doubt I will randomly find him again on the streets in my Z. I pray that I do, but the odds are against it.

He definatly had something, as there's no way in Hell that thing was stock and came up on me like that. I still think he was on the bottle and had to spray to win. If I am correct about the nitrous, I wonder how big of a shot it was to get him moving like that?

Just curious.... will a stock computer even let the car run that high?

Don't know if they are governed from the factory or not.

Thanks Mr Grammer and Mr Spellcheck :D Fortunatly loosing and lose are not words I typically have to post.

Im glad I clicked on this to see it wasnt a couple of stock cars running. Ive seen a couple challengers run at the track, both stock im sure, and neither trapped any higher than 103/104. I think I read the 6.1L dyno's about 350 to the wheels in stock trim. With a 100 shot, the motor dyno'ed slightly over 430ish hp but the torque gain was insane.

My Formula dyno'd 441 RWHP in the mountains on a hot and humid day. So for him to pass like he did and have a good car or two on me like that, he's definatly got more than just a 100 shot done to the car. I'm guessing it was probably a combination of spray (more than a 100 shot) and some other mods.

I was impressed with this particular Challenger, as I would be impressed with anything that beats a 450 RWHP car like that.

i would say the stock Challenger is close to 350 RWHP. I am about 325 at the wheels and i took on a stock Challenger the other day. I got him from a dig and got about 1.5 lenghts on him, then he started to reell me in but never caought me before we shut it down. I didnt really blwo him away, but it was a good race. I wanna race on at a track and see the real numbers.

He needs way more than a 100 shot to pull you. My car kept up very well with a srt8 up over 100mph. My guess would be he had to have some sort of forced induction because i dont see someone spraying a really big shot on a challenger. How many aftermarket parts are out for them now? (cams, heads, etc.)

And i bet those things are hella expensive to mod.

If you've got a $45,000-$55,000+ (depending on what deal you got from the dealer) Challenger SRT8, then you most definatly have a handfull of extra thousands of dollars to mod it as well. Whats another $5,000 after you've just spent $60,000?

There are plenty being modded here. A buddy of mine works for a machine shop that has already built half a dozen forged low CR engines for them (no word on if any of the engines where in this one or not).

He could have very well just had a 175-200 shot on it for that matter as well. Don't think it was FI though, as it doesn't seem right that I would make the initial pull on a FI car right at highway speeds like that.

yeah, i was just thinking that no one would be crazy enough to spray that big of a shot at a brand new motor like that.

You gotta put in to perspective that these challengers are peaking the 4k lb mark with ease.

Wow. I still think the purple car is going to have too many traction issues to hold on to CALL911 to 100. But if we do the standard Supra race (race from highway speed on), then we both know the obvious outcome.
