The important thing to consider here is whether you will need to have a smog inspection. If you do, it might not be a bad idea to keep it around so that you can reinstall it when smog time comes around. But if you don't have to worry about smog checks, then you might consider selling it on ebay. Although nobody WANTS a smog pump, there are bound to be people who live in places where they will need one for emissions testing. And these folks might be willing to give you something for it.

The problem with that is once you remove the AIR pump and subsequent tubing, there's really no way to put it back on because the cross-over tube needs to be destroyed or CAREFULLY cut and removed, making reinstallation a pain in the ass. I would say once it's out, it's out. :)

It is a useful item because it can be used for an e-vac setup so it is not as disposable as some may think.

I have to admit that I am rather new to the LT1. So maybe there is quite a bit that I don't know about it. But wouldn't it be possible to remove the components which block the removal of this tubing? I just find it rather hard to believe that the ONLY way to get it off is to cut it off. Maybe it might take a while to get everything off the motor. But I would think that it is removable.

The way the tube is installed it must be cut. It would be incredibly labor-intensive to remove everything to get it out in one piece. Even the GM service manual says to cut it to remove it.

It just makes me wonder how they recommend it be reinstalled.

From page 6E3-C6-4 of the FSM:

2.) Use appropriate length of 5/8" heater hose to join both halves of cross-over pipe. Clamp both ends of hose securely with hose clamps.

They should have done that to start with, so it would be easier to remove.

Get rid of it... get rid of all emissions EGR and crap and block it off.... Tune the car and youre set... how strict are your emissions?
