Went to the Track tonight and ran a new best and beat a LS1 TA a4 with headers lid and a catback. My car is stock with a catback and DRs

pretty good trap, 6 speed right? i need to launch my car next time i go to the track. my best 60' is like 2.28 :jest:

Drag radials helped alot but im still only leaving at 3 grand to save the stock rear end and clutch.

6 speed though right? I had DR's but then my car became a DD. :(

I'm hoping to go back to DR's this summer but I won't launch hard. My rear end > no car.

Oh yeah its a 6 speed. I bought a set of DRs and SS rims for the track. Only 200 bucks from craigslist

edit: 97z28 loves hooking too, but in a different way.

ow, an LS1 auto with those mods...either the car has a cold or the driver let off. it should trap around 105, regardless of how crappy the 60' is.


wait...what elevation are you guys at? now that i think about it, my car was trapping 5mph slower in vegas than it does in so cal.

The ls1 might have the 2.73 gearing too which would put it at around that trap... I would swap in some 3.42s if that's the case. Either way, nice times! :metal:

Dont know what gears he had but I do know they were stock. There were 5 ls1's there and only 1 beat my Et. and 2 trapped faster.
I think we are about sea level.
My car hooks fine now. The TA I raced also hooked.
One of the guys there had a formula that when stock only trapped 98mph.
Last Ls1 I raced at the track only trapped 99mph with lid and exhaust.

This simply does not happen. Clearly, you've never heard of the potential of the ls1. They are unbeatable too. I raced a stock LS1 on my R6 and he beat me. I think he only used 1/4 throttle too.

congrats on the win...but I agree something was off on the LS1

My old 01 WS6 A4 ran 12.8 @ 108 with a lid only (good weather ~500DA)....swapped in a borla cat-back and went 12.90 @ 110 in 4000+DA)

I dont know why people say that there was 5 of them there and only 2 had faster Trap speeds and only 1 of them beat my ET. Mostly all autos and none were spining off the line. Track was hookin pretty good.
Sure there are some fast ass stock LS1s but not all of them. Just like there are high 14 sec LT1s and mid 13. sec LT1s stock. Its all luck of the draw.

I agree with you.....things can vary. But its not the norm....the majority of LS1 cars will run mid 13's stock....A4's will trap in the 101-105 range and M6's in the 104-108 range. With both cars you will end up with a few slugs and a few freaks. I will say that my WS6 was in the freak catagory as it was quicker than the norm. It dyno'd 323rwhp and was only rated for 325 at the crank ;)

See what Im sayin then. They mostly were in the 13.80 @ 102mph range, 2 of them were 104+ mph.
In all the big car mags from back in the day I remember 13.4 @ 107 being the best run of any of the big testers, It was a TA in Motor trend, all the other LS1s were like 13.8+ at around 102. Motor trend always had the best driver. All the other big mags were in the upper 13s low 14s Road and track, Car and driver etc....

All of these LS1's you keep racing my be junk! A buddy of mine with only an 02 WS6 with only a K&N filter(stock lid) and a cut out went 12.80 at 110 on street tires with a 6 speed. I'd be ashamed of owning a 13.50+ LS1 car... A 98 auto car should do that...

I have owned LS1 cars B4 and LT1s and so did my buddies I have first hand experience with them both 1 out of 25 are fast.
Most of the time YES A LS1 can beat an LT1 But not always. MOST STOCK LS1s are not even close to 12 sec cars stock. Stop reading the Internet and go to the track and watch the races on a test and tune night.
Ive been racing these cars for 15 years at the track and pay very close attention to whos running what and how it compares to the My car or the car Im with. Ive seen hundreds of these cars go down the track.

ONLY THING DONE WAS THE DRIVER MOD, THAT WAS AS FAST AS IT WOULD GO!!!!!

ended up running good with a few bolt ons ,Slp ram air, lid, cat back, HPP and stat, Wires,ported TB,Ram air hood and some suspension on DRs(stock motor,rear end exhaust manifolds,cats etc.). Cant find the slip but it was
12.7x @ 108mph

whats funny is that i trap at 108 with 2.73 gears in my a4, with only bolt ons and a mild tune. my car is nowhere near a freak either, so i dunno.


I guess what it comes down to is i wouldnt brag about beating a certain engine, theres too many variables. you had good times...Id leave it at that.

EDIT: if thats your best time in the LS1, then you must not be near sea level. I was running 13.55 @104 on a bone stock car (even tires were stock) with auto x suspension, so it woulda been faster on stock suspension. remember, 2.73 gears and no stall.

Those were my times bone stock and yes with a crap Hypertech tune i also went 108 so I dont understand what your talking about and UMMM....................................

just so you guys Know I started a thread on LS1tech to see how the LS1 boys ran stock and then with mods. 13 0f 13 went mid 13.s-low 14s stock fastest one so far was a 13.3.
IT IS VERY POSSIBLE FOR LT1s TO beat LS1s :metal:
Out of the 5 I have raced so far, I know at least 3 were stock, 1 had a cat back and a lid, the other 1 told me he had headers, flowmaster and a lid from the sound of his car im guessin he still had cats with shorty or mid length headers.

What elevation is the track where you are? Our track is 798 feet IIRC.

They ran at the same conditions, and apparently his car was the quicker. Add another notch on the belt of the lt1! A kill is a kill, that's what it comes down to. :shame:

Come to firebird in AZ. I've seen LS2s trap 101. I have video proof. I've seen lid/catback LS1s trap 103 I've seen VQs trap 92.

They aren't fast in every climate, and even then they aren't all "amazing."

last time i raced an ls1 with both took off in first from like a 30 mph roll and he immediatly put 14 cars on me even tho i was flooring it. by the end of second he was gone. by the end of third he pasted me again cause he went around the world. theyre so fast.

this was my last run in with an Ls1, he has a few bolt ons,we both were on DRs,i spun a bit and clutch was not too happy. DA was 3000'+...sorry for the vdeo of a video
