I know it has been done before where people have hacked the stock heater box to get rid of the AC and keep the heater but I can't find anything anywhere anymore. This winter I'm loosing the AC since I don't even use it anyway and I'm planning on hacking the heater box all up to get rid of all of the AC junk thats inside and hopefully make the engine bay a little cleaner looking.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance

I know its been done but its a lot of work, to do a "nice job" the dash should be pulled out and the cutting of the box done outside the car, with the engine in the car its almost imposable to do a nice job, basicly you just cut everything flush off the fire wall, you have to add an air deflector inside the box to the air is directed in the right direction. I just pulled my whole HVAC out of mine

I would do that too but there has been at least 50 times where I have had to use my defroster in able to drive. But I live in wisconsin and it tends to get a little chilly around this time and with the dew/frost somedays I need to keep at least the defroster.

I also wouldn't have a problem pulling the motor to do the job right and most of my interior is going to be pulled out this winter so why not the dash too LOL. I really want to get this done, but I don't know if it would really be worth the little bit of looks that some people would notice. But then again it would look alot better than half of the AC junk just hanging there not hooked to anything.

Anyone have any info for modifying the inside of the heater box like lethal mentioned?

Thanks again man

So how much weight did you cut out there lethal? I heard that if you loose everything its good for 40#s or so. I'm not really concerned about that yet, but kinda curious.

I did some searching on LS1tech last night and came up with a few pics so if anyone has more to add or wants to see how its done, here they are :D
