how do i check my check engine light?

i got a 1995 fire bird formula (OBD1 brains) and the motor went bad and i bought a motor out 1996 camaro (OBD2 brains)

now the car is missing a little and the check engine light is on and we cant get the computer to read at all.

what to do?

are you using the 96 wiring and computer?

If you just swapped the motor I would do a good visual and make sure all your wires are good and you guys didnt break any spark plugs. If not your car should have a ObdII plug with ObdI systems. I am not sure if a generic code reader will read them for you. You may have to drop by a shop with a tech II to get them read.
