Haha I got out of class this morning and went to drive home... well i saw that a 335I beemer was pulling out right across from me so I went to start the car quick without letting it prime or anything and I turn the key.. the pump starts to prime and then no cranking lol
This hasn't happened in quite a while but yea.. security light came on and I knew the drill... had to wait 5 minutes for the light to turn off and finally I was able to start my car again. I think I might just need a new key as it is the original 15 year old key
or how do I just disable this garbage?

get an ohm meter and find the resistance of the "chip". Then go to radio shack and get the resistors you need to equal the value of the chip. find a wiring diagram and track down the correct wire and splice in the resistors.

There are a couple of sellers on eBay that sell a unit to bypass VATS. I think one of the better ones may be from BakerElectronix (?). If you google it, it should come up.

VATS?
Vehicle Anti Theft System.... that chip in your key.
A tuner can disable it. Sometimes a eraser can clean the contact from what I've read. Or get a multimeter and buy a new key.

I probably should have been able to decipher that acronym on my own.
Sounds like some serious pwnage.

VATS is disabled in my chip... just looked on tunercats and checked to make sure so IDK why I get this problem.
It hasnt happened in about a year or maybe more.

is it just the key? i thought there were other things that could trip VATS.
i.e. if you unlock your car from reaching in the door if your windows are all the way down.
i was at a drive thru once and it was taking forever and the water temp was getting too hot so i decided to shut her off.
about 8 minutes later the line moved up some, when i went to start it.. VATS kicked in..
so.. i had to push the car to the drive thru window.. get my food.. and push it out of the way.. haha embarrassing. :(

Not sure why, but everybody around seem to keep calling "VATS Bypass" a simple resistor to install under your steering column or on the TDM's connector. But the problem with that is it will only bypass the key and the lock cylinder, while the entire core of the security system (the TDM or Theft Deterrent Module or anti-theft module) still remains in the loop!
That resistor trick was born just to add a remote starter or fix a broken wire, but today it makes little sense. Today is the TDM that is causing tons of problems around! It dies systematically with the age of the car - even way before her 10th birthday. That's what happened to my trusty Buick and is happening to other tens of thousands of unfortunate people in North America. Lots of people are even junking their cars since GM discontinued the production of the TDM back in Jan 2009. I have the solution but if I put that link here may be it will annoy the moderators. If anyone needs the solution try to post below and I will post the link...

Wait 5 minutes? No sir. When my 93 did it I just busted out my tools and disconnected the battery the reconnected and gave it another go!

^^that would have been a smart thing to do when mine was acting up a few years back. i sat in the car for x amount of minutes waiting for that security light to go away.

VATS has owned everyone once or twice.
VATS and I had our laughs. It got me a few times, before I got it for good.
