so everyone that knows me knows the LS1 "blew up" that i had in my car... well heres the story, when i got the motor swap done i got it tunned, get it home drive 6 miles and it started this HORRIBLE ticking noise... i figure, collapsed lifter. so i order gaskets, lifters and head bolts to replace the lifters. get it done STILL ticking, then i remember i used the stock o ring on the pickup tube on the oil pump *doh* replaced a $1.99 part that i spent over $300 tracking down... DAMN!
next week, stops ticking and BAM the trans locks up in 4th... get it out 3 times replace the syncro keys and everythnig was "fine" i put the trans back in and now it wont go to 5th 6th or reverse. the car was hit HARD in the rear that i got the swap from so i spent $600 rebuilding that, 4 tear downs later trying to track down broken shit, i went to swing the 5th 6th and reverse fork shaft out of my way and notice it didnt spin on the axis, but it spun in a 3" diameter since the bottom of the shaft was bent *double DOH!* replace that and the trans is smooth as butter :)
put a FAST 92/92 intake on it and it ran like a raped ape.. i loved it... took it 300 miles and it was fine, on the way back it starts making a exhaust rattle noise, i pass it off as a loose band clamp i remembered i didnt tighten down good... sound goes away the rest of the night and i get it home fine, drive it the next day 30 miles to work and all is good... leave work at 4 to go pick up some parts for a friend, and it starts the noise again this time its coming from under the car REALLY loud.. and the clamps are all tight... so im thinking broken valve spring, i limp it to the road my friend lives on about a mile from where it started the noise again. down shift to make the turn onto his road going about 10 i hit 1st, get up to about 20 and shift to 2nd get to 25-30ish, push the clutch in to go to 3rd, it makes the strangest whine and BAM its locked up TIGHT! due to the o ring being ripped the whole dyno time turning 6700 RPM i immediately say DAMN i spun a main bearing..
the next week i sell the FAST to order a LQ4, get the motor and start pulling the car apart, while i was swapping all the parts from the LS to the LQ i pulled the trans off to put the LS1 on a stand, the motor was off balance on the Kmember and the dolly i had it on so when i split the two the motor fell forward and the trans went to other way and something hits me in the face... i look down to see a bolt off a slave i lost when i was doing all the trans work on the mysterious problem T56 i got with the motor, this bolt looks like its been attacked by a die grinder on steroids. so im looking around like WTF did this come from?!?! So i get the motor off the engine stand and pull the flywheel off and the back of the block is TORE UP!
cliff notes, the motor was NEVER blown and in perfect working order the ENTIRE time, the bolt i had lost about 3 months prior to the motor "locking up" was wedged between the block and flywheel, while it damaged the block it is only cosmetic and has 0 effect on how the motor will function... so all this for NOTHING!
