Well, I spun a few bearings in my 95 Formula today. In search of a used motor, I found the LT1 in a Fleetwood. I figure it was an auto tranny (so you know it wasnt pushed hard), and had 88K miles and they only wanted $500 for it. Anyone think of any reason this wouldn't be a good idea? I plan on throwing my heads and cam on and just swap out the block. After that, just drop it back into my Formula.

i dont see why not, especially since youll be using your h/c. i think the fleet wood uses iron heads and a differnt cam to compenstate for the weight. but im not totally sure about the heads, but that doesnt even matter.

what i found is some of them have the lower compression 10-1 dished style pistons. so may wanna pull the heads first an check.

Well, thats not terrible I guess. I'd be at 11:1 CR with my heads (they were mil'd and had the lower profile head gaskets), which isn't that big of a loss. Yes, the Fleetwood uses iron heads, which doesnt matter, bc they aren't staying on. I guess only time will tell as we swap everything over and get it goin.

This is also my chance to swap out this lil ole hotcam for a little bit bigger cc503 or similar. The hotcam was fine, but I could have gone a tad bigger on on auto tranny daily car. Also been looking at Llyod Elliott's 226/230 cam. Lemmi know your thoughts about it.

go with a custom grind, i don't like the cc503s results i know a few ppl running them, there not happy ether.

if you run the cc503, or a similler custom cam then you will want to have that compression that you lost from the fleet wood pistons.... it will make a differnce in performance.

Motor will be here this week. It took a little longer than we thought to get it on its way but no biggy. The new cam is ordered as well. Decided on a 226/232 on a 109 LSA. I'm ready to get this done...again lol. Ed from Virginiaspeed will be in town for his tuning next week, so it'll be rarin to go to the track by next weekend.

Well, with some delays, the car is almost finished. Basically the only difference between the motors are the motor mounts, the power steering bracket, and the oil filter pickup. Everything swapped over without an issue basically. The Caddy block has one more knock sensor in the block, but I letf it in, and just have nothing plugged into it (my wiring harness doesn't support the extra sensor). Mostly everything is fresh now on the block (paperwork supported, and internals looked at to verify the rebuild on this new block), new water pump, timing chain, full gasket set, oil pump, opti, lifters, new springs that match the new cam (Hotcam going bye bye finally...hello to custom grind), and everything else "performance oriented" has been swapped over.

With this setup, I'm setting my sights on the 11.7-11.8 range NA with the mods listed on my Fquick, minus the N20. As everything pans out, a 100 shot will be a welcoming party for the new shortblock in the near future. I'll keep ya posted on pics/vids/time slips/track times as the week goes along. Track and dyno are planned for this week, so I have a few miles to put on this badboy before track or dyno day.

Dumb question, but was the use of H-beams a bad idea or no? I'm just a grease monkey, I don't have any info on them, just opinions. I've google'd it but I can't find a strait answer haha.
