Hey Popo I have a couple questions for ya.
If you pull someone over and you smell weed, even if they tell you NO you cant search the car, dont you have prabable cause enough to detain them untill a warrant is issued for a search?
and...
What if you know theyve been smoking but searching turns up nothing and they pass all the sobriety tests?

I have the ability to not allow them to drive if I feel that they would be a danger to them selves or others... even if they pass field sobriety, as long as I can articulate WHY I needed to do what I do...
As for the smell, yes I can take a decent look based off of the smell of the marijuana, however Its so easy for me to get a warrant, that I ususally go that route. BTW, if I arrest them for DUI, I have to do an INVENTORY SEARCH of the vehicle anyways, so thats my catch all to the rule.

Do you want to ride in the front wearing a vest, or in the back wearing handcuffs? You need to articulate what kind of "ride with popo" you are looking for. lol I'm sure both could be arranged, but you'd probably have more fun riding shotty.
And when there is a ride along with us, we tend to even put on more of a show.....
We do the same with our ride-alongs. I've only had a couple, but it serves as a way to make us want to do the more exciting stuff to show them the 'fun side' of what we do, regardless of the amount of extra paperwork we are subjecting ourselves to. One thing I hate about my job, is the amount of paperwork I have done by the time shift change rolls around.
Kind of sucks that you just limited your meal options while you are working a little bit, but I'm sure he won't be working there much longer once his boss finds out he was arrested for possession. . . At least I would hope he would get fired.

True story. That's how my day breaks down usually. I hate the paperwork, but it's a necessary evil. Besides, if we didn't have to do so much paperwork, could you really even consider what we do "work"? haha

No, but funny story....
One time I had a call for a vehicle accident. It was reported to be a vehicle into a tree.... Myself and one of the Officers from a neighboring department rolled up and found the crash... The driver was no where to be found, but then we heard laughing. On the other side of a tree we found him sitting on the ground laughing. He had a beer bottle lable stuck on his head (Think it was YUINGLING LAGER). He just kept on laughing even though he was bleeding from the head, we asked the obvious questions; ARE YOU OK? he says YEAHHHHH, HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING? "Hell no, Im on the patch" and points at the lable on his head..... I fukn lost it!!!!!!

"It doesn’t happen too often," Hanna replied with a slight smile.

When racing your Integra against a full size diesel dodge ram....
1-makes sure a cop is not sitting on top of the bridge you use as a starting line
2-get rid of that gay fart can so your car does not scream "LOOK AT ME RACING OFFICER"
3-when the Officer yells "I got your tag , follow me" know that he is probably bluffing.... because I was when I got em BOTH

:jest: Well, that goes without saying.
My thoughts on it are fairly simple. I am against it if it puts the innocent in harms way, or it is done in an area that is generally "un-safe" or an annoyance to anyone. Past that, it just seems common sense usually keeps you safe. But didn't know if you had any knowledge/advice coming from the law and its point of view.

i though you were playing, and thats why the short answer. Of course I have some insight and some experiences I can share. However it seems that the devistation caused by street racing does not affect people until it hits close to home for the people it finally affects and at that point , its to late for someone.....

True. It's a dangerous game to play. Some involved know and accept those risks, others may not fully understand them until, as you said, "it is too late". But again, if doing it in a "safe" place, the risks are minimized.
Would you mind sharing your experiences and insight?

Ahhh, its that time again.....
So POPO's tip of the day....
If you plan on driving your dads car, and you dont have a license... when it breaks down on the highway, and you walk away from it... make sure a cop is not parked in the dark less than 100 feet away from you when you do..... and when you decide to deny that you were driving the vehicle and try to say your friend was driving when the cop makes contact with you......
popo8
08-04-2010, 01:11 AM
IF you see the Police driving into a Parkinglot because someone called the cops and said you were trying to steal cars....
And the cop engages you and tells you to stop......"POLICE STOP! POLICE STOP!!!!"
If you decide to run, and you get away from the cop for the night......
DONT BRAG ABOUT IT ON FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!
Several days ago, I was called to handle a call in a neighboring TWP. ALot of our TWPs only have one Officer on at a time, so when the other TWP was tied up on a DUI, they requested I respond and handle a call in their "PROJECTS" for two young white males trying to steal a vehicle from the parkinglot....
I arrive on location, the two bolt..... I chase them across the lot with the car.... I bail and we have a foot pursuit...... BY NO MEANS AM I FAST on my feet, but as we ran through the projects out through a playground, and across a soccer field and foot ball field.... I hung with these two 15-18 year old kids...... I only lost them once the got into some wooded area and I couldnt just run through (SOLO) all balls to the wall.
Lost em for the night... but we had susp they dispeared into the only home out in that wooded area.... Well the local PD has been keeping an eye on the two boys (brothers) FB page..... AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW....
Yesterday one of them holds a conversation with the other one about out running the "black" (Im mocha) cop in ROLLING HILLS......
DUMB ASSES!!!!!

I've been a little slow with this thread, but here we go, another TIP OF THE DAY.....
When buying a car from a Police Department through a municiple auction try not to bring shad equiptment when you pick the car up.....
FIRST, dont think that bending the corner on your license plate is going to keep us from noticing your registration is expired...
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/92-5.jpg
NEXT, bring a trailer with a winch that is strong enough to pull a 3 thousand lb car... not a 2 thousand pound winch...
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/92-4.jpg
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/92-3.jpg
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/92-2.jpg
Comming to the end of these COMMON SENSE TIPS, make sure your trailer is LONG enough to fit the car you are buying.... (yes those are ratchet straps holding the tailgate against the back bumper of the car).
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/popo08/92-1.jpg
And ^^^ if you look real close, make sure you bring straps to actually tie the car down... this guy put it in park and set the emergency brake for his 30 mile ride home....

haha reminds me of when i brought my trans am back from AZ. the dipshits at budget said the trailer they had was long enough for my car but because of the slanted crank height adjuster bar at the front fo the trailer, we had to hang the back end of my car off like the cop car in the pic, with the tailgate in about the same angle (it was held up by one side metal bar, the other one was broken) i'm suprised we didn't get stopped since the license plate was barely visable due to the door not being all the way up. we drove it back 1800+ mi like that.
I wonder what kind of fun the new owner will have with that car? maybe something like this?
"First you trade the Cadillac for a microphone, then you lie to me about the band, now you're gonna put me right back in the joint" "they're not gonna catch us, we're on a misson from God!"

I am quite sure you could spare it and if you did then maybe others would too and we could start something good that all Americans could benefit from.
Never mind they would just give it to some place like Switzerland because the politicians dont need info or real feedback ect from the common folk like us.

I wish I could.. but I feel and know that we and our country are in bad shape... and we are looking at losing our super power title and becoming a 3rd world country.... Its just time before society uprises against the government because they are destroying the economy and so many lives... its not zombies thats gonna destroy us.. or the world blowing up.. Our government will have done it, and the people will pick up weapons, start taking what they need and just like in Afghanistan... Egypt, IRan, etc there will be marshal law with blown up cars on street sides, and military every where trying to keep peace... I dont support it... its just what I see coming.

I hear ya there, I see things coming too but I have been around long enough to see the housing and economy thing ect to know that there is allways a correction and so there will be a correction here as well. I just hope it comes in the form of votes and not bullets. I only hope that those that come after us will forgive us for our actions because they have not been the right call.
Funny how as a joke me and the family made out a whole Zombie plan even with us taking control of military vessels not far from us to escape the horde to applying it to something in real life that could actually happen. I hope the "Change" we were promised dont include that plan going in to action.

POPO's COMMON SENSE tip of the day, has nothing to do with dealing with the Police... but it has to do with something Im seeing as a trend with our sites YOUNG INS!
STAY THE F IN SCHOOL!
While you have the change to have your parents support you and live at home... STAY THERE, and finish up as much education as you can.
THE JOB MARKET IS NOT GETTING ANY EASIER... and as much as it sounds great to make 10 bucks an hour right now, or whatever is offered to you to be a "BACK," fight the urge and get your degree.. your associates, your bachealors, your masters... whatever... BUT THAT PIECE OF PAPER GOES A LONG WAY
Im not saying I make a fortune, but I would be hard pressed in this economy to find a job making $34.55/hour without my degrees. AND YES 90% OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE REQUIRING DEGREES NOW.
So, finish it up.. enjoy your youth because once its over.. its all BIG BOY PANTS AND ADULT LIFE FOREVER!

You don't need one. Say what you want me and everyone on this site has been 18 and trust me if I had my ws6 when I was 18 it would have been ruined. I ran the wheels off my formula. I've learned alot. My current 2 will be super nice decently quick cars. I always wanted a Turbo car but now I realize I want nice, quick, and reliable and a boosted car is alot less reliable than a n/a. No offense Larry but you can agree alot more money and alot more things to go wrong. Let the time come for mods.

I definitely have to agree here. As much as I would have LOVED to have my WS6 at 17-18, even as it sits in stock form now, I would have destroyed this car 6 yrs ago. I have a 3-colored beater car that's seen all kinds of terrain as proof of that LOL. As much as you want it now, just do your best to appreciate the car for what it is and keep it clean. When you're older, you'll love the car that much more for having cared for it and not gone ragging on it, especially being that you have an anniversary edition! Always love seeing a super clean anniversary car.

Without alot of money invested to do it right... yes, I agree... but..... a 600hp N/a car and a 600hp boosted car, both built right with a 100% tune, are just as reliable as the other.
You cant compare a stock car to a boosted car and say the stock car is more reliable.... well of course a 275 hp car will have alot less strain than a 600+ hp car...
But I get what your saying.....

For sure. I'm happy to be lucky enough to have a wife who supports my willingness to go dropping $30k into upgrading a 17 yr old car while everyone else tells me how stupid I am for wanting to do that lol. But in the end, I'll be the one laughing it up with all the memories while they simply remember car payments forevermore as they keep trying to buy new cars instead. I'm going to try to enjoy every last bit of it, no matter how pissed off I get working on it until it's done right lol. Nothing can give you that same sense of satisfaction IMO.

Been working an investigation for a stolen MONEY ORDER from the victims mail box....
After a search warrant, and a month or so recieving all fo the requested information from Western Union, I recieved a copy of the Money Order.
The victim had alleged that she completed the MO for her section 8 electric payment....$20
She tells me that it was stolen out of her mail box the day she reported it back in the end of February.
Well after some time on the phone with Western Union... trying to understand why the money order was not filled out, or signed, but had been cashed, I learned that it was deposited/cashed by the COUNTY SHERIFF's DEPT in the county I work.
Here is where the stupidity get even more obvious. As a Law Enforcement Agency, I called another Law Enforcement Agency, and ran the NUMBER written on the MO on the front. Its a transaction ID..... and it comes back that it was used to purchase a Concealed Carry Permit....
I was transfered to the Sgt, and I asked him to email me a copy of the permit that was issued in the begining of JAN (nearly 2 months prior to the reported theft) using that money order..... he did.
It was a photo ID, of the ALLEGED VICTIM that reported the crime.....
That person will not be happy next week.......

Well I now have to bring the VICTIM/ACTOR in, and confirm intention, or accident. If I have enough to prove that individual did it on purpose, I will charge :FALSE REPORTS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.
THE SHERIFF will pull the permit to carry
and the HOUSING AUTHORITY will review the individual's SECTION 8 status.

Do not take this the wrong way...
But, to me, that seems like excessive use of deadly force, which sadly seems to be on the rise. The article even said they weren't sure it was a gun and I am sure since it would all be cops as witnesses that even if the guy was holding a hammer, its now "looked like a gun". Yes, I was not there, so yes I can only voice my back seat driving opinion here, but thats my read on it. Furthermore, aside from telling teh guy to leave his truck was there any reference to the victim pointing a gun at the cops? Or was it, "well crap he isn't moving, may have a gun, better shoot."
Lots of stories like this coming up lately, cops are either becoming under-trained, trigger happy, or very nervous of idiots. Or a combo of all that, which is most likely.

yes, but this is not Iraq, just cause someone drove through a barrier does not mean they have a intent to blow themselves up or shoot people.

This man knew what would happen being less than five feet from the police and pointing that at the cops.
Something else, I want to clarify... when we make statements that it "may have been a gun.." or something along those lines... its more because even if its a toy gun...or another item being manipulated to look like a gun... the response is still the same.

But seriously, there's a "total authority" mentality that seems to be taking over with a lot of police anymore. People getting tossed around and thrown in cuffs for no reason other than questioning an officer back, officers not allowing or attempting to stop videoing when it's perfectly legal, etc. Plus officers for the most part know exactly what to say in situations to be able to get to do what they want and the system is rigged in their favor. I've seen so many instance of officers abusing the "I felt in fear for my life" It's sickening. It spreads hell didn't work for me when I legitimately used it.

Resigned from the LA state police after 10 years before disciplinary action as well. I think this guy should think about a new line of work. Actually, if convicted, he will have to.

There's a light I get stopped at every morning. Two lanes plus a left turn lane. For some reason, with no other traffic waiting, the left turn arrow will turn green, then about 2 seconds later, the other lights turn green.
So one morning I'm jamming out, coffees kicked in, and I notice got a fully marked local PD cruiser in the turn lane next to me. No other traffic but him and I. When approached by a uniformed Police Officer who is in the process of ticketing and having illegally parked vehicles parked in the no parking areas of the bus lanes where only minutes away students will be wandering all over the parking lot, dont expect making comments like "ok tough guy" and "im gonna record this" as u pull out ur camera phone to help u NOT get a ticket.
Lol. All he had to do was drive over to the next lot less than 100 feet away.

When driving... if u become tired. Find a safe place to park to take a nap. Found this young preggo lady parked in the fast lane on my way home friday night. Had to call the local PD and stay parked behind her so she didnt get plowed into... the whole time worrying about getting the newly finished caddy rear ended.
