does anyone one here have a sts turbo set up? seems kinda interesting and different, can anyone shed some info on the ups and downs on it?? and also is it efficent it seems like would be hard/difficult to maintain or build boost with a rear mount turbo?

I think you could make more power by dumping $7k into the engine, then bolting on the turbo kit. Just my opinion. It is a neat set up though.

Cam Heads typical bolt ons will be a bang for the buck.........

You can piece together your own remote turbo then buying a sts kit. I was looking into it and was looking at 1500 for everything. Oil pump turbo fuel pump etc

there is a member on here with a black formula running an STS set up.i think his user name is "BLACK HAWK" .pm him.

hmm sweet, well thats by no means what i plan on doing, anytime soon atleast, up next are some good heads, a cam and 4.10 gears...just after i get the motor built i might wanna do forced induction a long ways down the road im not a fan of nitrous

Nitrous is the same concept. Forcing the engine to output more power. Nitrous is much cheaper though.

I personally would love a turbo build, but doubt I could afford it. 4.10's and a non-turbo suited cam wouldn't run too well with each other though

haha, yeah it would be a while before i did any kind of forced induction, i just wanted to learn more about the sts and how well they work on f-bodys, right now all ive got done to the car is shorty mac headers and offroad y-pipe which i would like to swapout for some LTs, heads, cam, and i figured i could do 4.10's since i have a six speed it wont hurt me too much on gas and that would do me good for a while. but when ever i can scrounge up the extra money i think a turbo build would be pretty cool, everyone does s/c atleast round here they do

I would love to have a STS kit on my car. But the funds don't exist. Like has been mentioned earlier, you can make your own kit for a lot cheaper. Just curious on this, but what's your beef with nitrous?

well i dont hate it, but i just feel like its cheating, i mean if it was for track purposes only then yeah i dont mind it, but kids around here go and buy a nitrous kit and bolt it up to there stock motor and spray the piss out of their car till it blows up and think its the fastest thing around goin i got NOZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ lol

I will be installing my STS kit next weekend, with some other upgrades (boost control, 255 Walbro, 42# injectors). I will let you guys know how it turns out. I picked up mine used, and everything looks pretty kosher so far.

Again too, an improperly-modified turbo setup can be just as bad to a motor as nitrous can be. I am making sure I have all my peas and q's covered. Werd on the nitrous though... a big key is heat-wrapping the crap out of the exhaust. (Word to self)

hmm sweet, well let us know how the build goes, i wish i could find one used in decent condition. if i do a turbo build the motor will be up to specs before i put one on there

:secret::secret: my thoughts on sts/rear-mount systems: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/12485435-post11.html ... rear-mounts are the shit when the motor is built for it...:secret:

edit: it's bryan with a "Y" by the way ;)

edit2: you don't want 4.10 gears with a turbo, you'll be shifting faster over letting building boost ( so i've been told by the master mind ) i'm 3.42's and love it... 23-25mpg on the highway @80mph in 6th gear

Black Hawk is right on the money. rear mounts may not be ideal for the strip but properly setup they will run with similar front mounts on the street and are a TON of fun. then again look at Paul Majors vette lol Rear mounts hold the fastest LSX drag radial time.

Pro side of the STS, they are cheeper than a front mount.

Con side of the STS, they are a a cheepmans turbo, meaning it'll be much more difficult with an STS to make bigger power compared with a front mount.

Here's my .02 cents on it; anytime you are going to deal with FI, its going to cost you a lot. It also is very in depth and labor intensive to have everything setup properly for it. IMO, if you are going to go through with it, why not just go all out and have something both reliable and powerfull from the get go. I would just save the money and go with a large front mount that would be much more capable. But thats just me

i beg to differ Sir... you can't just bolt on a front mount without upgrading some things to make them work to their full potential... it's only cheap if the person does it the cheap way, and by doing it cheap the person will probably get cheap results. not one is less difficult then the other, they all have their own inherited pro's and con's ... weather turbo, supercharged, no2 or all motor, you still have to put more into them over the standard kit to make them all work properly.

^ I believe you to misunderstand my statement. I mearly meant that the STS is the cheap mans turbo in the sense that the turbo itself can be had for less than the usual front mount kit, and also that they are usually not as capable as some of the larger front mounts.

have you ever had a rear-mount system?

I've never had a turbo system at all, but that doesn't mean I haven't done my research on them ;)

I am basing this purely off of guys I know with them, and the amount they spent on the kits, and the power levels STS guys are making vs the cost of guys with large single front mount setups and the power level they are making.

From what I have seen (and it is more than just a few cars here) the front mount kits are more expensive and yeild greater power with the engine builds being similar. This is on a consistant basis.

Now, I am not too big to admit when I am wrong, so if you know something I don't, please let me know.

FWIW, the guys with the front mounts that I know are pushing the 1,000 RWHP mark. To my knowledge the STS guys are a quite a bit less.

I had a STS kit when it first came out. Worst investment I ever made. Hated it. Do yourself a favor and just go with a front mount kit from realquick... lt1boost.net
