I thought I had a build thread on here but I coudlnt find it anywere. The goals for the car sounded simple enough, pretty much a 700-800 hp street car with the ability to hit any road course in the country and have a good time and then at night throw on a set of slicks and skinnies and bang off some 10's.... Oh and it needed to be PIMP! I want it to be in GMHTP and Im hoping all the custom stuff ive done will put it just a step above a typical thirdgen build... This is why its been down for two years...
The cage is complete with the exception of the harness holder pieces, seat brace and both pass and driver window nets. Its a custom 10 point I built in house, I added the thru fire wall bars since Ill be running coil overs and like the added reinforcement in the shock mount area.
The turbo setup is a PT88 that will eventually turn into a 91mm. I built the hot side out of mild steel but will eventually change that out to stainless. 4" Intercooler, 4" charge piping and 4" down pipe (fabbing that up now)
Motor plate I laid out in auto cad and had my boys at AEI CNC cut it out on the water jet. Then I cut it up to add a rpocket to set the power steerign pump into. I really hated the stock LT1 alternator so I sold that and picked up a smaller internally regulated and cooled one from an acura legend. I notched the frame to set it down and low. All the steering linkage clears and its uses an 05 GTO belt tensioner.
The engine itself is a pretty standard 355, LE3 heads a custom 236/236 .624/.624 on a 114+2, Mahle 2618 forged pistons, forged Cola cranks, Eagle H beams, Splayed billet main caps, Morel Lifters, Comp hareded push rod and GMPP guide plates.
Well I guess thats a pretty good description :) heres the pics through out the build. Ive still got a ton of work to do and parts to buy...

Thanks guys! Its taken a long time to get this far, Ive changed my plan on the turbo threee times! it started with a T70 then I had a TC78 for it and now im on the PT88 thinking i MIGHT upgrade it to the 91mm before it makes its maden voyage lol. Im desperatly trying to get it ready for the shootout and after my wedding in May ill be able to dedicate alot more money to it.

Time for a little update. I got the flywheel/clutch installed and matted the two together for the final time. Started getting the Cross member TQ arm mount built and I have 90% of the 4" down pipe and boom tube exhaust tacked together. Its starting to take shape :) im off on vacation for the next two weeks, when I get back its getting the radiator and intercooler mounted and start working on the engine wiring harness and maybe fuel system.

Thanks guys:) right now im kind of at a cross roads.... I really dont like having the A2A intercooler in front of the radiator... and with it all at the extreme angle air through the intercooler is going to be very poor... So Im thinking of going A2W and mounting it flat behind the radiator. I think itll be a MUCH better setup overall. I plan on road coursing the car btu only at 5-10lbs of boost. So if I actually heat soak the water tank Ill jsut add a heat exchanger inline with a small fan similar to the magnuson setups... I really dont think ill have a problem since Im going to be running E85 or E98.... Thoughts?

Edit: I suck at reading
You'll be fine with the A2A if you can stand them straight up (or have less radical angles) with the radiator behind (but not immediately touching) the intercooler, an air dam underneath the car will direct sufficient airflow to the radiator.

There is no possible way to stand it up more.... the radiator is HUGE and is controlling the fitment... its at roughly a 40-45 degree angle... im not worried AT ALL about over heating. I have plenty of air moving across the radiator... its the IAT's that im working to lower... A2W lets me get below ambient which is tough for A2A....

Well I got the A2W intercooler mounted and have mocked up the charge piping. Its starting to look like a complete engine bay! I also got the radiator hoses made and installed... $300 bucks for radiator hoses is retarded ... but it looks good and should work like a champ.
I also took the entire LT1 wiring harness apart and pulled out all the BS that I didnt want/need. stuff like transmission sensors, rear O2, fan and fuel pump wiring, oil pressure sensor etc... Then took it all and added the LS1 PCM ends along with coil, cam and crank sensor plugs:) I also relocated the MAP sensor and coil connections to the interior and relocated the IAT sensor up through the frame rails to where Ill mount the sensor in the charge piping.

Heres just a little update. Ive been SLOWLY and methodically pulling all new wires and laying out the main body harness. Right now I have ALL the wires that run to the front (horn, lights, fans, IAT, boost contor solenoid) routed in the passenger frame rail. I have it sleaved in a rubber coolant hose so no chance of chaffing. Ill get some pics of that when I get home tonight.
I also have ALL the charge piping welding up and the intercooler 100% mounted. Im jsut waiting on my flange for my BOV to get here so I can weld that on. once thats on and I relocated the 3/8 npt IAT bung the charge piping will be 100%:) The boost blow out prevention struts for the silicone TB connection are actually spoiler stuts for a asphalt late model :)

Thanks for the comments guys! I havent been about to put a whole lot of time into her lately. I did make the jig for my K-frame and started laying that out. I have all the material in the shop to make it i jsut need to get out there and start bending the tubes! Once the LSxshootout is over i can get back to my car. the "other" shop car is taking up all my mental resources to make sure its ready in two weeks!

Well over the last couple nights ive been able to get a good jump on my K-frame. it weighed in at 22.6lbs I added a couple real small plates and an extra tube at the bottom so Id expect it to be right at 25lbs. Over all I have about $80 into it :) also got my line lock and Propotioning vavle mounted. Need to get the brake lines run. I should have the engine fired up this weekend tho!! :)

Time for an update. Ive got the K-frame 95% complete weighs in at 24.6lbs. I still want to add a hand full of gussets but for the most part its complete. I got the hot side wrapped, I still have to wrap the down pipe but thats no big deal. Also got a 3/8" bung welded into the charge piping for my IAT sensor and routed all the fuel lines... I was hoping to get all the odds and ends done by the weekend to get it fired up but I had to put a few parts on hold since I found a pretty good deal on a coil over setup so I had to scoop that up.

Just a little update, I have a Mcloed belhousing on the way since there was no way in hell I would shoot for 700-800 hp without any feet protection. That should be here by the weekend so sunday or early next week ill get that in and then there is NOTHING keeping it from hitting the dyno. Im really hoping for 800hp and Im planning to throw whatever I have to at it to get there. Im running VP113 so I will be able to lean on it pretty hard. heres a few updated fully running engine bay pictures.

Guess I should update this thread! Made it to the dyno a few months ago and had the thrust bearings go out on the turbo as well as a blown out header gasket (should have just used silicone instead) I didn't really even get much of a tune in it. But at 7-8 psi it made 550hp. I've since bought a new turbo (another pt88) and I'm in the process of getting the Efi connection setup taken out and replacing with a fast xfi/xim setup while still using the Efi connection cam and crank sensor pieces.
Should have it fired back up the end of January! Looking forward to much easier tuning through the fast and after 4 years finally getting to go out cruising with this thing!!!

I used the 24X setup from EFI connection for the cam and crank triggers and then flipped 7&4 and 2&3 wires on the coils and used an LT1 specific injector harness... Its a mutt but damn it fired up and idled in 5 mins with nearly no hard tweaking. Ill be posting the results from the dyno on the 11th. Im shooting for 800-850 on VP 113 and around 650-700 on pump..

Looks incredible man, great build.
I really LOVE what you did with the exhaust. I've been waiting a long time to do something like that...I just haven't had the right vehicle to do it with yet.
Can't wait to see what it puts down.

This highly interests me because its what I've been considering with my car as I think the opti is going and I want to be done with it. Who did you use for a wiring harness for the XIM? How difficult was it setting it all up?

Sweet car! I just read through all of the pages. To answer your question, yes this site is still very much alive and kicking! The funny thing is that 90% of the people replying to you on page 1,2, and 3 haven't been on in a long time. Not sure why though. Are you shootout bound this year or what? How do you like the FAST XFI?

The XIM harness is jsut an LS1 harness, Since your using LSx sensors everything (can, crank and coils) all plug right in. Then I used an LT1 specific XFI harness which had all the correct plugs for the (TPS/IAC/MAP/Injectors) The only thing I had to add to the XFI LT1 harness was the CAN link and cross connect the CAM and CRANK output wires from the XIM to the XFI. I could have jsut plugged and played at that point but there is a TON of other connectors on the XFI harness that I wasnt going to be using and where I wanted to mount the boxes was to far. So I stripped out what I didnt want and extend all the wires. It took about a solid day to figure it all out but its SUPER clean and really cleaned up with wiring harness.
I managed to find some great deals and pieced the whole thing together. I already had the 24X setup since I had it running on the LS1 PCM. I found the XIM and Harness for $400 on Yellow Bullet and Stole the XFI and LT1 Harness from a buddy for $800. So if you include the 24X in my total Ive got about $1750 in a XFI/XIM setup thats running on the 2.0 software which also has a built in two step and boost controller..

Thanks man! Im not sure im goin to like it but I wanted something different and with a turbo it kind limits your "cool" exhaust.. The video really doesnt do it justice tho. the 4" down pipe into the boom tube is freaking deep. you feel it in your chest standing next to it!

Glad to see it still going. there was a time for a while I couldnt get on it kept giving me errors and I could would try to post, and it would crash.. looks like its all back up and running! Yup, the plan is to be at the shootout this year. Itll be for fun as there is no chance itll be any competition for the the modified power added guys! there's not much chance ill hit bottom 10's let alone bottom 9's! Im down for some grudge races tho! :)

Ppssshhh.....a couple of us in Mod P/A (due to regulations) aren't even near your power level. You'll do just fine.

Hahaha Its not all about power... Since my car is more setup for handling it really doesnt transfer weight very well and has always been pretty terrible at the strip.. I fought for 2 years and failed to get this thing into the 11's ... So I said #$*@ 11's im gonna skip them and just hit 10.99 at 150+ lol Im looking forward to getting back out there, would have been nice to bring up two lt1's this year but Brian with the Green LT1 3rd gen vert has since gone to the dark side and swapped out to an LSx...
The car looks badass! congrats on getting it done.

Awesome build, I'm very fond of third gens Camaros. There's just something about those cars that have a character all their own. My friend/neighbor has 2 of them, 92 RS that's getting paint and a 86 Z28 getting a cammed LQ9/T56.

Made it to the dyno yesterday. First pull on pump gas and 15degrees of timing hit 596hp but the cross over blew off at 5000rpms... Couldnt get it to stay on so called it a day and came back to the shop and fixed it this morning. I'm heading back to the dyno friday to finish the tune. We were able to get the part throttle stuff ironed out but WOT was to much back pressure.. I can already see tho that this turbo is going to a little lazy... I was seeing 10lbs at 4Krpms... Im going to wait till we're done tunning it and actually drive it to see how it feels. There shouldnt be any issue getting to my pump gas goal of 650. Shooting for 800+ with 113 and 20+psi... Ill keep ya posted!

Yesterday was stupid frustrating... Boost controller started acting up and when we got it figured out the damn header blew out the ultra copper silicone! Uuugghhh so back to the drawing board to get the header to seal properly. The headers were milled after they were welded so I know they are true... I'm blowing out between the middle two primaries.... Other than that crap it pulls pretty good made a bunch of aborted pulls trying to get the boost controller fixed making 600 by 5k rpms and 15degrees of timing on 93..

15lbs... Im hoping once I get it to stay sealed up I can actually tune on it and get to my goal of 650 on pump gas... Im starting to have doubts ill get to 800+... We will see...
Here's a vid of it.

Have you thought about trying the multi-layered Percy's aluminum gaskets? They're called Seal-4-Good I believe...they've worked flawlessly on mine since day one, I'm right at 15 psi.

On a blown setup im sure they work great but turbo cars not a chance... I had the percy's on there the first time I went to the dyno last year (when I hurt the last turbo) and it blew them out after 3 pulls... Im going to try some multi layer steel ones like this. http://www.jegs.com/i/Mr-Gasket/720/4804G/10002/-1?parentProductId=1183785
Ive used the stock GM MLS gaskets on LS turbo setups and never had one leak or blow out. Im hoping for the same luck on the LT1!

I'm surprised you're blowing header gaskets. I'm running simple Fel Pro 1406 paper gaskets with no issues.

Ya I was supprised to... After the percys blew out I had the header flanges milled and trued up.. still blew out the silicone..

Since I'm not a turbo guy, I guess I need a bit of edumacation. What causes header gaskets to blow out? I realize both the headers are headed to a turbo, which will gain some pressure on the header side due to the flow being slowed down by the compressor, but damn...THAT much pressure?

On a turbo setup the ideal situation is a 1:1 or better ratio between back pressure and boost. On a log setup like mine I'm thinking it probable closer to 1.5:1 meaning at 15psi of boost I have about 20psi of pressure in the hot side...

i blew out a set of those in 2 runs. switched back to std felpro gaskets with the steel core.
