I used to have a retired greyhound. His name was Zak.. He was my companion. I had him for many years, but one day he escaped from the backyard for his "business" and ended up getting hit by a car. We searched all day and ended up finding him, but it was too late, he was in really rough shape. I remember approaching him and all battered he tried to get up to greet me like he always did but I made sure he didn't get up to do more harm. At the vet, he could be saved, but it would have been a long and painful process. Being by then he was already old, I decided it would be best for him to be put to sleep.
Now that was the hardest thing I had to ever do, I'm pretty strong but I cried the entire day.

I had to do that to my old lab. 2 days later I broke down in the middle of a football game. Pets have more love, compassion and understanding than any human can ever have!

i had to put down my 8 month old cat Chevy, last year it was the hardest thing i ever had to do, she was always there for me her mom had her and the litter under my shed, an the mom ended up bringing only Chevy to my front door. when we brought Chevy in the mom left to go back to the others it was the weirdest thing. then we found them an took them all in an found them all homes but Chevy was special even the mom thought so, so i kept her. Then outta no where she got sick so after a day we took her to the vet he thought she had worms so gave her the medicine well over night the meds put her into shock, we finally found a emergency vet but they wanted 1500 bucks to save her an there was no good chance it would work he body started to shut down. So im thinking she was sick when the mom brought her up to me the mom sensed it... so i was supposed to save her an failed. it still breaks me down to think about it...
but some months later i found her almost identical twin in a shelter in north tampa, turns out she was sick too so i saved her from the shelter she was 5-7 weeks old but had a bad cold, turns out she has feline herpies (i guess all cats have it but to a lower degree) and ended up causing ulcers in her eye she almost lost her eye if she would have been in the shelter anytime longer she would have died too. shes healthy now so it makes me feel good.

Sad video. It brought tears to my eyes. When I had to let go of my first german shepard, I couldnt function for a month. He was my best friend.
I went through a rough time when I was younger.. I didnt have many friends who I could rely on, but my dog was always there for me. "Mans best friend" is an understatement when talking about dogs. They dont care about what you look like, how big your house is, what you drive... how much you make.. None of that means anything to them. Theyre just happy to see you, for who you are.
I remember my last day with my old german shepard.. He had a tumor under his stomach that we were trying to treat. He was 11 years old. We were all out in the living room. My parents, brother, and myself. the dog came up and sat next to each one of us in the living room. After one of us was done, he moved onto the next. After he said goodbye to us, he went into my parents bedroom and layed down in the corner. thats when we knew he didnt have much longer. My father picked him up and put him in a blanket and brought him into his tahoe. We were all heading down to the vet, to have him put down, since he was in pain and we didnt want to see him suffer.
My father was driving, and my mother, brother, and myself were sitting in the back seat petting him. I felt his last heartbeat, and I broke down in the truck. He was my first real friend. Someone who I could count on no matter what. He tought me a lot about life, and how to be a good friend and person in general. I knew he always had my back, and was there to protect me when I was younger from the UPS guy who would knock on the door, or anyone else for that matter who came near me.

Moving video for anyone with a heart.
I have had a few pets die over the years as well. I came home on military leave a year ago and had to take the family bull mastiff to be put down. It was a sad time, but I didn't really break down.
Now, my dog now, Boomer, he's got more personality than any other dog I've ever met. He's just as much my son as anything. When the day comes that he has to be put down, I am sure I will be a complete mess. Here's a picture my wife took of me and Boomer last week, after I came home from work and crashed on the couch;

I made the mistake of watching this video at work.......now I have 20 mins until I go home and I'm crying like a baby.
I know the day is coming when my dog will have to be put down, and I am dreading it more than anything.

Thats the saddest fucking video I have ever seen!
Reminds me of when I was around 9 or 10 we had a female german shepherd her name was nicky. We lived out in the middle of mowhere and I was only child so I spent every min playing with her. She was about 2-3 years old when she developed cancer and she had to be put down. I remember when she got sick she could barely get up but when she would see me she would try to get up and greet me but she just couldn't.
We put her down and donated her body to the Vet school at Iowa State U so maybe they could help find a cure and nobody else would have to lose there best friend like I had to.

Makes you wonder how often we may take our time spent on this planet with our beloved pets for granted. Ive had dogs my whole life and my fiancee and I have a 7 month old goldendoodle puppy now. Every one of the dogs in my life have been more loyal, proud, and trusting than majority of the people I've known. You know, everyone has those moments when it just seems like they are just a total pain in the ass and wont stop barking or wont leave you alone, but you need to take a step back. Remember that all they want to do is love you and be loved and be by your side no matter what.

Great video! I have two dogs. I got my dog Cali, a border collie mix, when I was kinda down and out for awhile and she brightened my life immensely. Then my scottie, Jockaroo is a dog my fiance got, he's awesome! They are best pals and don't spend a second apart! They are always a breath of fresh air!
