View Full Version : How to loosen supsension bolts?
I'm trying to remove the front traction bar out of the way. To remove the engine from the bottom. And bolts are SUPER tight. One of them started rounding already. I don't want want to have to grind them all off.
WD 40 good enough ?

I'm guessing your trying to take off the front sway bar endlinks? My best suggestion is to let it soak in WD-40 or any spray lube. Most of the endlinks I've removed that have been on the car for any number of years usually break from rust. If yours have never been off and they're rounding you might have to cut them off. You could also try putting some heat to them with a torch, just don't set your car, shop, or house on fire in the process! You can pick up a new set with urethane bushings at almost all auto parts stores for around $20.00.
Thanks , I did mean Front Sway Bar. Sorry about that. Ill soak them in WD 40 and wait a couple of hours.

They usually break right off. If you go to your local AutoZone or whatever, there is a line of auto parts on a peg display called the "Help" line of parts. There will be a generic sway bar kit of end links that works perfectly for our cars. It is about 6 or 7 bucks the last time I bought a package of them. When you put the new ones on, put some anti-seize compound on them.

we use a torch for stuff like that... if you've got a torch... they work wonderfully... just be careful :D
Yeah I have a couple of torches :)

Impact or Torch, it wont stand a chance :D
I finally got them off. Soaked them in wd 40 for like a hour. Then got a piece of pipe to get leverage . And they came off.. Pretty damm hard though. Now the dam tiny bolts on the air dam are also super tight... Ill try with wd 40 if not im ripping off the air dam and buying another one later.. I just need to get the engine out already

Yeah some stuff can be a bitch sometimes, but you will get past it. It will mostly be the stuff that hasnt been touched in ages.
But theres ALWAYS a solution...
Yeah. One of the bolts broke though. Im going to have to drill that out when the engine is out

I am dropping k member with engine already out right now. I am putting in tublular k and a arms and strange double adj etc. I go out the day before and blast with deep creep every bolt that I think I am going to need to take off. I do the same the next day. I have the MF'ing torch waiting to come out and play also. It does help to let that stuff soak.
