well for those that arent on my facebook and prob already saw... the LS1 blew up today... IDK WTF happened, i was just cruising, downshifted at a low RPM, turned on another road, slowly shifted to 2nd, went for third at about 25mph and it mad a GOD awful whine and compression noise and shut off... if i had known she was gonna go i would have made it go out with a bang... :( i was just so stunned in the pussy like way it died i was almost ashamed... i mean it gave no sign that it was gonna die it just stopped?!?!?! i put a FAST 92/92 on it a few days ago and thought i just stalled like i had a few times so i threw it in 2nd again to try n bring it back to life and it slid sideways. the motor is locked, and locked TIGHT it has a 1" bolt on the hub and i broke it trying to get the motor to spin over lol... that thing is FUCKED! but im on the hunt for a LQ9 now hopefully i can just get a low mileage motor and swap it all over with the cam, heads and intake.

perhaps when someone did the cam something happened? don't know if you did the cam or not. i forget. but if you didn't might be something happened there or just luck of the draw. hard to tell.

i did the swap, yesterday i drove it 200 miles straight and it was fine, today i drove it to work, fine, then from work about 10 mins down the road to its death :(
all together the motor had 60kish when i got it and i put prob 1k-1200 miles on it... sucks for real... but it has spun to 6800 quite a bit and i did a 150MPH run last night so all in all i prob destroyed it but that was almost 1hr before home...

Sounds like it may have broken a valve spring and dropped a valve. Sucks to hear but I guess it's upgrade time now.

Did you check to see if there was oil in it ? I know it sounds stupid but is it possible someone sabotaged your car ?

theres oil in it and its clean, and im losing no antifreeze, basically it didnt mess anything up majorly if it dropped a valve it would be missing coolant plus i didnt hear any metal on metal sounds, just a whine... my though it the pickup came loos on the oil pump and lost oil because RIGHT b4 it happened i looked and it had like 60PSI oil and it NEVER had that at idle unless it was cold, and springs should be good cause i never take it high RPM when its cold... only after its warm. idk i wanna tear it down but then again i dont until i get another motor cause itll have to sit til i get a new one with no motor and im not trying to take the K out twice lol

You still could have dropped a valve. I have seen a few vehicle break a valve spring and wedge a valve in the chamber without loosing coolant. Not that it matters that much right now. Saw a few LQ4/9 short blocks for sale on Tech though.

idk what happened to it and im kinda hoping the heads and cam are fine... but o well. im gonna try n find a 6.0 here soon cause i want to get it running before next month and wouldnt take a day or two once i got another motor... but gives me a good reason to paint the engine bay and the underside of the hood

Sorry to hear about the bad luck man.

I am guessing that the rod bolt gave. They really don't like multiple 6500+ RPM hits.

I've brought mine to 7000 RPM more than once, but everything in my top end will take it and smile for more. However my stock rod bolts are probably just rolling the dice waiting to go on me sometime as well in my LS1.

On a side note look up LKQ on ebay they have tons of 5.3s and 6.0s for sale all the time cheaper than ls1tech or local places. I almost picked up a 5.3 to swap but then sold my car lol It was like 400$ 75k miles pan to intake no acc with brackets

damn going through old posts i saw i never updated this..........








i pulled the trans/engine and went to separate the motor and trans, as soon as i did a bolt fell out from the bell, after i spun the motor over backwards getting the balancer off it dislodged itself. but the cause of all of this was a small bolt stuck between the flywheel and the motor, that i could not for the life of me find where it came from! anyway i put it back in and really blew it up about 4 months later :)

the cam backing plate pulled the threads out of the block and lost all top end oil pressure, and locked the lifters up and wiped all the cam bearings out along with my torquer v3 lol, you should know what came next :) i didnt the turbo LQ4/4l80 build :D just shipped my BS3 ECU off for firmware updates so i can get it going again after 2 years lol
