View Full Version : Boost Gauge Installation Question

So my boost gauge doesn't really show that I'm boosting at all, yet that seems impossible to me. This supercharger is fully/freshly rebuilt. Funny thing is it worked at one time, which makes me wonder if I really am not getting boost, but I checked the wastegate near the intercooler w/ the car running and I am definitely getting some positive pressure.
This boost gauge was put on by previous owner w/ the supercharger and the worthless Procharger mechanical FMU. It looks like it was tapped right into a line that goes into the FMU (not sure what its doing, I can get a pic if that helps) - yet that line does not seem to be doing jack shit, pulled it while running even, no vacuum/pressure nothing.
Another thing to note is that this car is certainly low on vacuum. My brakes are quite limited at low speeds due to this. Why this is still perplexes me, many people think its the cam, however, I'm not so sure.
My question here is can I retap the T-fitting to actually read this shit? If so where? I have no instructions and have never installed a boost guage, so I'm not sure where to go with it.
Thanks ppl.

I took mine off of the side of the intake manifold, of course I don't have any AIR or EGR, so I had an extra fitting. I can get a pic if you want. It might not be very clean though. :face_shocked:

Where on the side of the manifold? A pic will help, paint a little arrow in Paint too if its hard to decipher.
I still have AIR, however EGR is gone.

On the driver's side, by the fuel lines...

Nice!! What is that line for anyways? AIR?
I have the T-fitting, but not a whole lot else. Would I just cut open the line and fit the T in? I'm also noticing another place where it looks like you have another fitting, a little black one that the T(what I have, except all rubber no metal) is connecting to, did that come with your gauge or was that already there? I'd go look on my car but its not here.
Stupid questions I know but if I don't ask them I'm prone to fucking things up with my noobskills. Thanks a lot for your help man.

I think that line is for AIR... I believe it was on there before hand. It was from the EGR solenoid.
To fit the line on, you have to heat up the line and force it onto the tee, if you cut it you will lose vacuum. Like I did, make sure to zip tie the place where you put the line on to secure it.

Also, if you need fittings, your local Advanced Auto or Autozone should have a section for EGR fittings. Like I said, just make sure not to cut the line to make it fit on the tee and you're good. :metal: Hope this helps.

if you deleted the EGR just use that, thats where I hooked mine into.

If your vacuum is that low, I'd also look for a vacuum leak. I have a decent size cam and my vacuum is pretty good. A leaky line going to your gauge would give you a low vacuum reading, and would not show much boost if any at all.

id pull some of the other vac lines off (check one at a time) to check to see if you have vacuum. you may just have an issue with that one line. if you dont have vacuum anywhere then youve got a bigger problem.
if youve got a big enough vacuum leak somewhere, that means youve got a big boost leak too.....
you can take any vacuum line (that is working properly), put in a tee (you can get them at any autoparts store), and use that to connect the line that goes to your gauge.
if you think the gauge is the problem, you could use a vacuum pump to see if the gauge shows vacuum. you could also try a syringe if youve got one that fits in the vac line....

oh, another thought. i wouldnt drive that car hard untill you get the vacuum line to the FMU fixed. if you arent getting boost pressure to the fmu, you are gonna be way lean.....dangerous...
oh, how did you check that you had pressure at your bypass valve? you could also pull the vac line off the bypass valve to see if there is vacuum on that one too.
the bypass valve keeps the impellar from hitting the volute (houseing) when the throttle plate closes and the pressure spikes between the blower and the throttle body, but the fmu working properly will help to save your motor....
