Anyone remember the NES? That old 8-bit Nintendo? Well for a while now I've been hacking mine, trying to figure out how it's logic works, and learn it's CPU (customized 6502 by Nintendo), and how it generates it's own sound..
So I hacked mine to play programs without security (pretty much just disabling it's lockout chip), and burned some code to a flash chip, soldered it into a donor game cartridge. I also did some MIDI logic on the cartridge so it can be fed data from my keyboards to actually know which note to play live.
Viola! I had a C note when I pressed C, etc. All notes worked. Turned it off. I then programmed an appregio into the program so it didn't just play one note, it went all over the scale (warp+ type appregio). I then turned on a drum machine, and turned on a recorder, and played the hell out of it.
Took much technotalk? Then just listen to how it came out.
