Last time I took my certs on a computer you had to go to a test center to take them. You couldnt take them at home, that would defeat the whole purpose of the test.

You can pass the test and technically be ASE certified but they won't send you the certificate until you have the 2 yrs experience
edit: you can take the test regardless of experience

Half of mine just expired, but I still got my Master Tech cert to display. I will say that I liked the computer generated test a lot better than the paper ones. I took 4 test 1 day in 1 or 2 hours where as it would have taken me a lot more time than that on paper.

School counts as 1 year of exp. Kinda why I havent got mine yet. I dont plan on working in a shop , nor do I plan on being a mechanic so my 4 years of schooling only count as 1 year or exp.
Though I am going to check into to see if my previous tech support would count. You can take them and pass and have it under your belt to say you pass them and just tell your employer that you need the exp to be certified. Passing them will help you I am sure
