So I read how alot of you use and like what the seafoam has done for your vehicles, and I fugured I would try it in my Montero and BlueBottleZ's 85 Chevy truck.

Both have high mileage and we figured if it realy cleans out the nasty crap, what the hell....

I know I am very skeptical of putting anything in my engines other than fresh oil, however if you all have tried it and like it, why not...

I went to PEP BOYS and they did not carry it.... is there somewhere special i need to go to buy it?

Also I found this link i can order it from, however since I have never seen it, i wanted to know if this is the right stuff.....

Anyone????

popo ive gotten mine at walmart,,think it was 6 bucks,,same size can as advance auto next door..you can also get a spray can of the deep creep seafoam to spray into t-b

i did my z w/50k on it,worked great..also did my yukon w/35k,,also great results

the good thing about seafoam is its 100% petroleum(oil) based so its not rough like the solvent based cleaners

You guys are awesome. gonna pick some up local now that I have other ideas where to go...

next I will be asking you all if the instructions on the can are the best way to use the stuff, or if any of you had a better way to use it.

Ive heard that stuff does an awesome job, only thing bad Ive read is if the engine is really carboned up inside itll smoke so bad it sometimes will foul the o2.

I was going to do it to my civic but it has so many miles on it, and I just put new o2's when I did the header and exhaust Im scared itll mess them up.

Take the O2's out....

I've had a couple cans sitting in my garage for a few years... i'm just afraid i'll fuck up the engine. You're supposed to run it through the vacuum line till the car stalls out or something?

The way I was shown to use it, we sucked up about a third of the can through the brake booster hose with the last gulp stalling the engine. Another third goes in the gas tank, the last third into the crankcase then change the oil in about 100-200 miles.

Theres a bunch of ways you can use the stuff, I do the same as above but go 50/50 with the brake booster and gas tank. Be careful if you have any oil leaks using it in the crank case, they WILL get worse lol, well atleast in my work cars case

That would be ideal but good luck getting the damn things loose, it may just be my luck but Ive broken sockets trying to change them.

with that being said I do believe all the o2's Ive tryed to remove were stock also lol

I've had this bookmarked for a while (along with another that has since been removed) with the intention of trying it one day:

i put a half can in the vacuum lines and half in the oil. go out run it really hard. then change oil. its surprising how much better it runs after that..

I've used it before back in the day when I was N/A.

Best way to use it (I have found), is to have someone in the car keeping the foot on the gas (as once you start pouring it, it will want to drop below idle and die), and have another person outside under the hood. Loosen up the elbow that attaches to the throttle body, then have the driver hold 3,000 or so RPM's and slowly pour the seafoam in the small gap between the throttle body and the elbow.

After you've dumped in the appropriate amount, turn the car off and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then start it back up (you may have to put your foot a little into the gas), and be prepared to have a considerable amount of smoke come out your tailpipes.

I can honestly say I was amazed that I could feel a bit of a difference after I did this. The bad part is, that it WILL foul out your spark plugs, so just be ready to change them afterwards (also a good idea to seafoam like this if you know you will be taking on the burden of changing the plugs anyway).

I had not heard or had issues with it fouling out the 02 sensors, but I could see how it might.

Now I am running meth injection, and the meth is keeping everything nice and clean, but otherwise, I would still use seafoam. If it wasn't for the fact my LS1 was opened up and cleaned up after my MS3 cam install a couple years ago, I'd probably seafoam it as well.

damn, and the plugs in the montero are a PITA to change!!! under the intake! but thankyou...

ive used it on 3 cars and a 4wheeler the way it says to on the ls1tech sticky and never fouled anything,,wonder if its how you do it that makes the difference

this is basically the sticky from ls1tech

^ Not really sure how it would make a difference. Either way its still getting ingested into the combustion chamber, which is where the plugs are.

How long does the car smoke like hell after you have poured it in? Until you change the oil or is it just initially? I am thinking of doing this. How well does the Seafoam compare to the B&G 44K?

sz28
03-04-2010, 03:31 PM
I've never had it foul plugs either. It only smokes depending on how dirty the intake/combustion chambers are. So it could smoke for 5 mins, like mine did the first time I did it, or like my buddys truck with 215K smoked for a good 20 minutes, it was nasty smoke too. You only use it in the oil to loosen up any oil buildup, but it makes the oil get real nasty, real quick.

Can you really tell a difference in the way it runs? Maybe I'll get some and seafoam my 2000 Saturn SL1 beater with 153k miles then change the plugs and wires.

speaking for myself ill say for example a 13sec car wont become a 12sec car but it just kinda smooths everything out,,kinda hard to describe but you can just tell the motor is cleaner inside..i did my moms 96 sebring she just bought and she said it was like a different car(in a good way lol)

KLaBZ28

I'll do a series of tests before I seafoam it and get my avg highway mpg and get a reading of my emissions levels from the emissions tester at work then seafoam it then test it all again and see if it makes any differences. :P

It only smoked like hell for a couple of minutes. Then the smoke is gone. I have never used B&G so I don't know how it would stack.

I could tell a difference for sure. I'd like to see what kind of power difference it really makes on a dyno. After I used it in my Camaro, I could feel a difference for sure. Not like 50 RWHP difference, but a definate difference in both response and power.

Now you guys got me wanting to try this on my 168,000 mile DD truck! 2000 GMC 1500 5.3 LS, I'm sure it's got some buildup in it somewhere!:hmm:

Ok, so I got it, and I used it in my 143,000 mi montero.....

I did 1/3 in the tank
1/3 in the oil
1/3 into the intake (through the brake booster vacume line)

first thing I noticed this morning is that on cold start up, my truck no longer ticks like it used to for the first 5 minutes. Im assuming maybe it cleaned up some sludge or something that may have been keeping the oil from circulating where it needed to be.

I also noticed that I had to turn the idle back down after previously having to turn it up because it was slowly dropping... Not sure what thats all about, but the truck is running GREAT

I will keep an eye on fuel mileage
