On the way home late at night.. Had a few glasses of wine. But, coming up to a red light, the car is stopping so weak, I had to REALLY press on the brakes, and paniced and hit the emergency brake to stop.. I had to drive it home like that. I get home, look at the brakes, front disc brakes, BOTH of them, heavily grooved and damaged rotors, and NO brake pads.

Wtf?! It was working FINE the whole day, never noticed anything. Unless that was the slight popping sound I could hear when coming to a stop sometimes for the past months? I thought it was just shocks or something.

when you say the pads aren't there, do you mean like the whole damn thing is gone?? pad and backing too?? or just friction material???

I'm not sure. When I look at my fathers front disc brakes, the big block that holes the pads has some space between the block thing and the disc. On mine, it's nearly riding on the disc rotors..

X2 I had a buddy that lost a very clean IROC-Z when some drunk swerved into his lane and forced him into a very steep ditch. And I literally beat the shit out of my buddies if I find out they've been drinking and driving. Plus I almost lost my brand new truck 4 hours after I bought it because a drunk decided to blow a red light. So for the love of god don't drink and drive.

Ok, I'm done :shame:

But besides that, new rotors and pads for sure

Lol, my g/f (before we were dating) told me her car was stuck at her parents house and would not move. I picked it up and towed it back and when I pulled the front wheels off....not only had she worn through the friction material, she wore thru the backing plate for the pad and the caliper and backing plate had eaten away th rotor till the caliper got jambed in the fins that are btween both sides of the rotor.... NOW THATS HOW YOU DO IT!!!!

We had a customer bring an E150 Ford van in once with the complaint of having some brake fluid leaking issues.

Turns out they had worn through the pads and plate material and ended up pushing the brake piston through the fins until fluid came out.

W.....T.....F?

BTW: For drinking and driving, Not cool.

I wasn't drunk, I'm a lot tougher than that.. Definitely not at the "limit", if I am passed the limit I hand my keys off.. It was just, if the car didn't stop, I didn't need a cop adding that to a report..

Just got done doing the brakes. The calipers are fine.. Rotors were eaten, couldn't even be "turned".. Pads were there, but enough was gone where the bolts holding them in places were just flat out scraping away the rotor...

All done.. New pads, rotors, bearings, grease.. Going for a test drive now..

New brakes are working perfect. It doesn't even shake when inching forward at a red light. I never knew THAT was the brakes, I always thought that was the engine hesitating or something.

Next up, the rear DRUM brakes. Left one clicks every revolution.. (for real, money I JUST don't have, but, having functional brakes is important)..

..

I tried to stay away from the whole drinking thing since you were getting ridden enough on here. However now that you wrote this....... I have to tell you, ALMOST EVERY person that I have met that was not "at the limit" usualy were.

Actually If I remember the video of you, your a pretty skinny guy. Im guessing between that and how young you are your tolerance is not that high, and your BAC will be over the .08 legal limit before you even know it.

My best friend lives in Florida as well, and he is NEVER over the legal limit (according to him) and when he used to live up here, he always argued with me when I asked for his keys..... however, he was arrested last week for DUI.

i fixed my uncle's truck's brakes last month. He actually wore the pads off entirely. The pistons from the calipers were contacting the rotors. I wish i had taken pictures. I was SOOOO pissed at him. he is not very good with money, he spends it on stupid stuff. He did not have the funds to replace the rotors and calipers. I fronted him the money(and the labor) cause i dont want to see him and his kids in an accident. I asked the same question about the grinding noise. I said the pads have a little "chirper" that makes noise when they are worn out. He said he heard that for a while and then it stopped. He said he heard grinding and the pedal felt soft but got concernd (FINALLY) when he hit the back wall of his garage trying to park one night. Unfortunatly his oldest son (my cousin) is just as bad. He bought a very low milage car off the old lady across the street from me. INstead of replacing the Valve Cover leak and rusted (from sitting for 4 years) exhaust, he got a shitty paint job and a 1000$ stereo system. The exhaust finally fell off, the VC is still leaking, the stereo got ripeed off, and now the car is not cooling right becasue there is obviously a temp sensor out of whack.. I REFUSE to work on his car.. he needs to lean somehow...

Finally dont drink and drive.. period...

I'm not that skinny. I'm 5'9" and weight like 180.. If I know I have to drive at all later, I drink ahead of time, directly after eating some food to fill my stomach. I then wait hours later.. I make sure I don't even feel so much as a buzz, then ask a trustworthy friend who didn't drink to administer a test on me (walk line, etc, just not recite alphabet backwards, i can't even do that sober). That night I was perfectly fine, perfectly balanced, no slurred speech whatsoever. I was just worried that if ANY trace was left, a cop would get pissed, even if .01..

hahaha, Im sorry but i gotta do this:

You write "then ask a trustworthy friend who didn't drink to administer a test on me (walk line, etc, just not recite alphabet backwards, i can't even do that sober " what makes that friends "opinion worth anything? and FYI the alphabet backwards is not an accepted test for any Officer who is FIELD SOBRIETY TEST certified...

The tests are walk and turn, one legged stand and Horizontal gaze nastagmus..... so unless your trusted friend knows what to look for his opinion would not be worth anything.

One final fact. food in your stomach may help with your abitity to function with alcohol (altho it usually does not) it will not have ANY bearing on BAC (blood alcohol concentrate)

Well, trust friend was in the army, I'd HOPE he wouldn't screw me over..

(I've seen the alphabet test issued here, in Orlando).

Not saying he would screw you but what is he looking for....

do you or he know what is pass and what is fail in the walk and turn....?

or the one legged stand?

I personally don't know, but I was sure he did.. It was him who insisted HE administer it.

I walked on the line on the driveway concrete, one legged stand.. i can't remember what else i did though, that's two nights ago now...

But remember, i said a few. To me, that means 3.. Couple being 2, few being 3, several being 4.. That's how I was told..

WALK AND TURN
9 consecutive heal to toe steps
each step with your heel touching your toe
arms down by your side
watch your feet
count your steps out loud
there is a specific way to turn around
and repeat it back to the beginning

Every mistake has a certain point value.... after a certain point value your deemed intoxicated with susp of being under the influence

why dont you print that out and have him tell you what he is looking for when you do the test and see how much of that he knows.

That's why I was REALLY happy I made it home..

But, 3 glasses of wine.. Wine glasses being fairly small to begin with.. Hours later, I'd hope the BAC is low enough by then.

Still missing the point , and Im that guy that cant let it go and beats the dead horse....

IMPAIRMENT BEGINS WITH THE FIRST DRINK......

mmd8x28
02-27-2010, 04:21 PM
But how long till it wears off? It was exactly 3 hours since the last drink before I even went to the car. All alcohol wears off eventually.

why didnt you just say that 15 post ago??lol

its nothing personal man but when i wave bye to my wife and 3 little kids as they pull out of the driveway, im a nervous wreck until they get back home, hoping they dont come in contact with some weirdo or drunk driver(not calling you either) so thats where i was coming from(not speaking for others)

nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you learn from them

i think a point popo was making was, intoxicated or not your friend nor you were qualified to be the judge

That was it... and I didnt need an appology nor do I think anyone else did here. I know my own stubborn-ness had me beating the dead horse because I was seeing excuse after explanation after excuse......
