I never had T-Top covers. Wouldnt use them even if I did.

When I did have t-tops, they were always off. Never used em at all.

Now I just stare at cloth if I look up :D

So, to answer the question.... MOON ROOF!

they were kind of a necessity in AZ, but i prefered the open look of the glass so i had the tops tinted to 5% which while blocking out most of the sun, still allows you to look up and see the sky

I paid $50 in AZ for the 5% tint on my tops.. t-tops are one of the easier things on an Fbody to tint. looks much better than those plastic inserts, which i promptly sold after i got my t-tops tinted, for $25

I'm not from AZ, I'm from indiana, but i did live in the Phoenix area for about 1.5 years (july 05-feb 07) i first lived out by Luke AFB in Glendale, and later lived in SE Phoenix, practically on the Tempe boarder

Mine are usually on, mostly because I forget to take them off during the winter months. It gets too hot in the summer w/o them for me. I have thought about tinting them 5% like the rest of my windows.

i think so? thats basically limo. you could probably get double layered tint but i think for a single layer 5% is as dark as they go. remember your tops are already tinted from the factory so 5% is pretty dark. i can hardly see through the outside of my t-top down into my car with the way it's tinted right now

I've never had them for my car, but would probably leave them in all the time if I did. I guess I should put that on my list of things to buy.

don't own em. so off, that and the factory tint is enough. if i owned them, i wouldn't use them anyway, too much hassle to take off and put one when i put the tops on and such. yes its good for the interior but gosh. the tops are there for a reason, i want open air and to see out baby!

They sell 2.5% now, but it's overkill IMO. I had 5% on my truck and it was ridiculous at night trying to back up. Looks damn good, but to me its almost impractical. You get used to it after awhile, but I won't do it that dark again. I went 15% on my car now on top of the factory tint. I like it well enough.

BTW, the guy that does my tinting claims you shouldn't go any darker than the factory tint on the T-top glass. He said it absorbs more of the heat in the glass, making it more prone to cracking/breaking. That's the only time I've heard of that. It makes sense, but I don't know if it was true.

Oh, and to the OP:

Off all the time! I have my shades, but I don't like them. I used them for a summer and that was it. I'd rather be able to see through them.

I heard the same thing about the tint causing the t-tops to crack, but then i posted a question on ls1tech about it and i heard 4000 degrees is what the factory t-tops are rated to. there is no way a little film is going to cause the temps to go that high. I had mine out in 115 degree heat in phoenix with the tops tinted and they never cracked

That may be true, but I was thinking more along the lines of while the car is driving and flexing, etc. The 4000 test is probably heat only with no other factors. I'm sure than number goes down when you put some stress on them. There's a video somewhere of a Camaro pitching a T-top doing some road racing. Pretty crazy stuff. I know with the C5 targa tops are notorious for having small stress cracks in the glass. Those things are major expensive, too. I doubt T-top glass gets anywhere near the stress that those do though.

Either way, I've still never heard of one breaking from the tint, so if it does happen its probably pretty rare. I just took the better safe than sorry approach.
