I think I've got my info right, but I wanted to make sure.

I'm looking to replace some of the hardlines on my '93 and redo the ABS bypass I piped a while ago. The stock brake lines are metric but right around 3/16, correct? I'd like to redo the lines running the length of the car because when I did my bypass I actually had to splice with a -3AN union. If I remember right it's a 45 degree double flare throughout also?

A standard Inverted flare save for some of the end fittings which are metric bubble flare. Stock line size is 4mm and 3/16 is close enough to work. It's what I use in my line lock kits for the F-Body.

Cool, thanks! When you say end fittings, are you talking about at the wheel (connection to the flexible line)? Or at the master cylinder?

At the master cylinder. I haven't had a hard line to soft line connection apart in a LONG time so I can't really say what that fitting is.

When I redid some of my hardlines advanced auto parts had steel lines with that came with fittings already on them at various lengths. You just have to watch the fittings and bend them to fit.

Thanks! That helps out a whole lot!

This may be a stupid question, but are standard AN fittings and braided line rated for brake line use? I would imagine not, but it doesn't hurt to ask. After the trouble I've had finding new banjo bolts for the rear calipers on my '93 I'm considering going to a M10-1.0 to -3AN fitting at the caliper and using braided line from there to new hardline. Same thing coming out of the master, it'd make life a whole lot easier to come out of the master cylinder with a bit of braided.

You should only use braided line at the wheels. Using braided line else where will result in a softer pedal because the lines flex with pressure. They make braided line kits specifically for brakes (at the wheels). Why not get those instead of trying to use adapters with AN fittings? I got my banjo bolts from a GM dealership.

Oh, don't get me wrong...I'm only using braided at the wheels. All the rest will be hard piped. It's just that at this point the car is 17+ years old, and it's been sitting in my (sometimes damp) garage for the last 4. I got the brakes back together last night, but alot of the fittings aren't real happy about turning when I'm putting new stuff in. I found Russel -3AN pre made flex brake lines that I'm considering picking up for the four corners, then running-3 fittings and hardline throughout the rest of the car.

To flair AN hard line you will need a 37 degree flair tool (standard double and single flairs used on brake lines are 45 degress). Using AN line/fittings will make it alot easir to get fittings apart in the future. Standard brake line fittings are notorious for seizing up and rounding off the top portion you put the wrench on. Even with the brake line wrenches I end up rounding off the top part and have to use vise grips to get then loose.

The fitting you need for the stock rubber lines is 10x1.0mm male bubble flare to 3/16 inverted female flare. Which came from jakesz28.com. I found those, plus the banjo bolts, all the 3/16 fittings, 3/16 hard line and the two metric fittings I needed for the strange master cyl. at napa auto. Went through alot of line and spent alot of time cutting, flaring and bending on it, but it looks really good now. I took some new pics just now, their not tight nor do I have the brackets or clips to the firewall on, just they look alittle loose. 41844188418741864185

Now you have me wanting to redo my front hard lines so I can get it looking better as well as getting it off of the K-Member. Good job!
