i'm going to be taking my car off the road here in a month or so (winter sucks :( ) and probably suspending my collision coverage, but leaving comprehensive and lowering liability down to the bare mnis. then in the spring i'll bring the liability back up, and probably add collision back to the policy.. which is where my question comes in

right now i pay $447 every 6 months for full coverage on the T/A and liability on a 1995 subaru legacy wagon. my collision w/ a $500 deduct. costs $129 every 6 months and comp with $250 deduct costs $30.

who here still keeps collision on their car? my car is paid off and even though it has 122k miles is in much better shape than most cars of its age, especially up in this area since most cars 14 years old w/ 100+k would have rust (mine hasn't been driven in a single northern winter so its rust free)

so how about you guys? i know some of you younger guys might not because your car is paid off and you have higher rates, and also some probably have full because their cars aren't paid off. i'm curious what you guys do as well, but i'd really like to know about the guys 25+ with paid off cars, do you keep collision on them? @ $30 comp i feel is a no brainer, but collision i'm not sure.

The way i look at it, can you afford to buy the car again tomorrow if something happens to it?

I keep full coverage on my camaro to the tune of $265 (CAD) a month :(.

no i probably could not (well i do have more than i paid for it in savings but i am planning on buying a newer DD in the future, and then there is the fact i'm unemployed right now)

i guess my monthly insurance premium for 2 cars is pretty cheap @ $74.50/mo especially considering that does include full coverage on the T/A

I have full coverage on mine. I use progressive and pay about $99/mo. I also drop my coverage down to the bare minimum when I park it and cover it for the winter at my parent's house.

Both the car and truck are paid off. The truck stays on year round and the car is on about 5-6 months of the year. And when the car gets taken off the road it gets taken off my insurance also (take plates off, return to registry... No coverage).

When they are both on the road (or just one) they get full coverage, too many stupid people driving not to.

Might sound crazy but its in a garage year round, I guess my house could still burn down but I guess I will take the risk.

that brings up another question.. god forbid your house did burn down, does homeowners insurance that includes $xxxxx worth of coverage of items inside the house, like say a blanket policy for household valuables) cover an uninsured car in the garage?

Not sure on that one, I just figured when it was off the insurance your running back into the burning house for it ;)

What company do you guys use.

Im on my parents insurance plan and it runs down like this

2005 chrysler pacifica- around 120 a month full coverage

1994 formula- around 120 a month for LIABILITY

about 20 a month each for my dads work van and old pickup for liability.
TOTAL: 280 a month

That is with state farm insurance

We just got a quote from allstate and we only have to pay 160 a month total for the same thing that we have now from statefarm.

I know a lot of guys have alot more money than i do into your cars but i just cant afford to pay over 200 dollars a month on a 3000 dollar car. I basically buy my car every two years the way it is now without full coverage.

It costs me 380 for six months full coverage on my daily driver silverado(parents Policy). My trans am is on a seperate policy and costs me 460 for pip and liability and that was swearing tha t the car would see less than 500 miles a month. I can't afford to replace it if its totaled but I also can't afford full coverage either. Oddly enough my mustangs insurance was cheaper and I deleted the air bags on it. It also had a rebuilt title.

I've only not had full coverage on one of my cars and it bit me in the ass so there for they all have it. Paid off or not. Now, I have to keep it on them due to paying on my 'maro & 'rado but even when I owned my Bronco and my Escort I kept full on it. No telling what kind of idiot will smack the ever living crap out of it while I'm out and about and it's parked?

I have esurance and have had since i bought the car in 2004. At the time in FL when i turned 25 (i bought the car 2 months before turning 25 but esurance gave me the 25+ discount) my insurance was $820/6 and its dropped ever since. right now its roughly $380/6 for the T/A (thats what it was before i added the wagon)

I paid cash for my Camaro 4 years ago. I used to have full coverage, than I got several tickets, got my license suspended ETC. got dropped from Geico, and after that I had to get liability, cuz when I was calling around for quotes of full coverage, it was RIDICULOUS how much they wanted to charge me! So I got Liability for $150 a month. Now it went down Finally my Liability is now $110 a month.

The sucky thing about liability, is when stuff happens your screwed.. like I had a hit and run and I couldnt get the guys plate, so I was just screwed.

some of you under 25 guys are going to hate me for this, but just for the hell of it, i decided to see what a 2008 Z06 would cost me... with my current liabilities, and $1000 deductible for collision and $250 for comp...my rate would be $937 every 6 months... oh and that includes keeping the T/A with its full coverage and $500/$250 coll/comp deducts and subaru wagon w/ liability only on the policy

I just have Liability with comp on mine. I have a close friend that is my insurance agent and he said that insurance would not pay for all the performance parts on my car. Plus if they knew that it was a 383 with a D1SC they would not even insure it!!:(

my dad will be 50 nov. 1st so I'd say he counts as the 25+ group lol... we have the lowest possible form of insurance on ours... we've been contemplating on dropping the insurance completely because it only goes out of the garage, on the trailer, to the track, back on the trailer, and back in the garage, but I'd hate for something to happen and it not be covered with anything...

I'd just put storage insurance on it incase something catches fire. No insurance is going to cover it at the track anyway.

www.esurance.com (http://www.esurance.com)

and before anyone says it, i have filed 2 claims with them and both times the car was fixed and paid for within a week and a half of the incident (although the second time i paid out of pocket for $914 and then got a check for $414 the next week because they were going to try to get the full amount for the guy dropping the hay bale on the road. they eventually went to arbitration and i got 1/2 of my $500 deductible back)

I've had them for almost 5 years (will be 5 years in may) and the highest i've paid was in S.FL when i first got the car. it was $820 every 6 months. I've always kept collision and comp on it except for the 5 months it was in storage in phx back in the spring of 07, when i lowered the liability down to bare minimums and dropped the collision but kept the comp on it. that was around $305/6 so i'm not even paying that much more now for having all the coverage on it, and liability on the wagon. the funny part is i live in one of the most expensive counties in indiana to pay insurance in (thank you gary, indiana) so i can only imagine how cheap it would be if i lived in BFE indiana.

I pay 68 a month full coverage on my WS6.
In the winter cant you just get fire and theft coverage if your storing your car for like 10 bucks a month?
