No, its not broken... But it might as well be!

Heres my situation. 2 days ago, I went to go cook breakfast and used the toaster to cook toast (who woulda thought? :hmm:). I guess there was a piece of bread or something on the bottom that was burnt and sent off the smoke detector. I see my german shepard sprint towards the basement because she didnt like the sound of the smoke alarm. I run to turn it off because I knew she didnt like it, and pull the toast out after I go to shut the smoke alarm off. I went downstairs to see what my dog was up to, and tried to get her to come upstairs. She went into the laundry room and was laying down.. I went upstairs and let her calm down in the basement and waited until she felt comfortable to come back up. I cleaned out the toaster while she was downstairs..... And figured nothing of it.

Yesterday, same thing happened. I guess I didnt completely clean the toaster out, and the smoke alarm goes off again! Same process as monday. She sprints downstairs, I run to turn the smoke alarm off, and go downstairs with a dog treat for her. I go back upstairs, clean the entire toaster out, and make sure theres NOTHING left behind so this wont happen again.

My dog comes back up 30 minutes later, and I give her a bunch of treats as an appology.

Today, I go to make toast again. The toaster was cleaned, and no smoke alarm. As soon as I put the toast in, she sprints back downstairs, eventhough theres no smoke alarm. I think she put 2 + 2 together and thinks that whenever I use the toaster the smoke alarm will go off. Good logic from a dogs point of view, but its not fun from mine! So now I cant even use the toaster without her getting afraid of the smoke alarm, even though it doesnt go off!

What do I have to do now? I dont want her to be scared of the toaster... And its a perfectly fine working one too... But I think the only way to solve this is to buy a new one...

Anyone else ever deal with something similar to this with an animal before?

My Grandpa had a dog that didn't like the doorbell, but nothing like you described. Funny and not at the same time.

Agreed. I feel very bad that she's scared, but its funny because of the logic behind it.... "TOASTER = LOUD NOISES!"

Get one that doesnt click? I'd set it on the foor, let my dog smell it and see it, and just leave it there for like 15 minutes and see if that helps any. Maybe she just needs to see its nothing bad? I have a 95lb black lab mix and he's scared of EVERYTHING. I love working in the garage, so I used to take Charlie out there and he's be a nervous wreck. I'd let him come up and sniff every tool I grabbed, let him walk around, and after a few days, he's fine with it Now he just hates air tools and the compressor but thats understandable.
