Well I had an unfortunate accident that totaled out my SRT4. Now the problem I am having is what to get next. I was thinking about going over to an F-body but here is my issue. I was able to make about 500whp on pump gas and still avg 23mpg and get almost 30mpg on the highway. Now that I am looking into other cars I am finding that getting anywhere near that mpg is hard enough stock let alone when making power. So I have been wondering what kind of power and mpg are people on here getting with their rides. I swore that when I did another car I would not go fwd again so I am trying to stay away from buying another SRT4 but the issue is that power to mpg it seems like the best idea. Now I could be way wrong and some of yall are making 700+whp and still getting 25mpg on the highway with a turbo set up if that is true great then there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know some will say that making power you should not worry about mpg but I guess I got spoiled by the high trap speeds and still being able to have good mpg.

so anymore input than that LOL
ls1 with 6-speed and then build off of that?
with the play toy I have 94 lt1 firebird was going to do a 383 with turbos

damm with 4.10s thats surprising. So then like 3.08 while killing some power would keep it up where I want it then and I could go turbo instead of NA and end up fine?

I am glad that unlike some forums I been on that you guys are actually help full in your posts

Well, Im running boost on a tune that was done as best it could be with a misfire issue. With another tune with no mis, Im hoping for 500s "ish". With the opportunity to do a smaller pulley for more boost.

If your not familiar with my build its a fully forged 385ci, with a PROCHARGER/INTERCOOLER set up.

Ive sold many sets of stock rims.... silver ones sold to a guy with an LS1 TA. gloss black ones sold at maple grove raceway swap meet. and Chrome ones to a guy with a polo green camaro.... (all salad shooters)

I just did look it up. Man so these car's can make the power and still get ok mpg. So many guys I have talked to just laughed when I wanted to know about mpg. I guess they were all NA cars and that why there mpg sucked so much for the power and times they were running.

I have just really gotten tired of FWD while it is fun to beat up on V8's in a neon I want to just go bigger. If the car had not gotten wrecked I would have been on the path to making over 500whp on 93. The motor was built to handle about 1,000hp and the turbo flowed 75lbmin so I was easily gonig to get over 500 but sadly car went off road and into a ditch. Over 7,000 worth of dmg (needed to have motor completly redone broke bedplate). I lived and no injury from it so I happy about that but sad that the car is gone. Probably going to have them give me the car back since I have over 1,500 in the fuel system a lone.

So a 6speed stroked and turboed car with a good tune should allow me to get an f-body about where I want it very cool. Hopefully more will chime in with there builds and how they do.

They will... the site slows down a bit on the weekend, but keep it in the fore front and these guys can tell you the MUCH BIGGER numbers than me that they are pushing....

The trick to getting good gas mileage is keeping your foot out of it. I am just shy of 400 whp and I get about 18 & 26 behaving and about 11 & 19 when I'm beating the crap out of it. M6 FTW!

those numbers for me were with me playing with it and beating on it for about 1/4 of a tank. when I got about 23avg. I know that it helps when I not playing I am driving it like a granny shifting at around 2,000rpms
Then again I got better mpg then most did with there srt-4's

Guys here may crucify me......but. Go LS1. I am knocking down about 28 mpg making 760 at the wheels of my 99 vette. Expecting about 20 mpg hwy on my T/A when it is done at the same power level.

Lol sorry popo but it is the truth. The best mileage I have ever seen on an LT1 is about 25mpg as opposed to 30 in both of the ls1 equipped cars I have had. Stock numbers of course.

I know a member on this site that knocked down 32 in his LT1 M6. I personally only got a little over 29.

To the OP, 6 speeds get pretty good gas mileage. Plenty of cam'd LT1 M6 cars are getting 26+ mpg highway. I get about 15-16 in the city and 26-30 on the highway, but my car is relatively stock.

If you want to go fast and get good fuel economy, get a bike.

Had a bike might get another one but just not as useful as a car. Like I said I was getting 125mph traps and 27mpg in my last car and after hearing some of these other people I am starting to think that I will be able to do the same with a F-body and not have to go back to a 4banger.

And if I really want good mpg I have a Yaris that I avg 36 and get like 40-42 on the highway :-)

Not to mention... even if you lose some mpg.... a v8 sounds soooooooooooooooooooooo much better than a 4 cyl....

yeah I do have to say that the open headers on the 94 firebird made me jealous
