View Full Version : Opportunity of a LIFETIME (for me at least)

Ok, just because of the nature of this "opportunity", I am going ot be vague in some areas, just in case I decide to do it.

The other day , I was advised that the County Detectives want to "borrow" me. You see, because of the nationality that I am (NO IM NOT BLACK, IM MOCHA) and the fact that I can speak and understand the language involved with this nationality. They are requesting to borrow me to have me work under cover "limited capacity" with a gang that is made up of this nationality.

I will no longer come to work if I decide to do this (as long as the investigation continues) I will report to the County and basically work whatever hours are necessary to "fit in"

I know again that it is difficult, since I am being vague, however I am the ONLY police Officer in this County that is this nationality with the ability to speak /understand and "fit in" so to speak.

Issues with this gang,
-drug activity
-prostitution
-investigations but no convictions into several homocides...

WHAT DOES EVERY ONE THINK????

My g/f hates the idea, not so much because of the danger, but because my schedule will have me all over the place and she is afraid she wont get to see me. Also (hahaha) because she is worried that I may have to be "flirty" with other girls in the midst of my "duties".

Seriously, give me your insight, from people who have no true attatchment to me, or my job....

Thanks All, in advance.

Ultimately its up to you, but I'd say go after the blood suckers. I know I would if an opportunity like this presented itself.

I'm not trying to start anything with saying this, but your g/f should realize what she signed on for when she decided to date a cop. It's the same way with military g/f's / wives / significant others. Yeah, most of the time its going to be your usual schedual, but something like this comes up, and its going to suck. If you decide to take this assignment, I can tell you now that it'll be rough on her. And as far as her concerns over being "flirty" with other girls, just remind her who you're coming back to no matter what when all is said and done.
I assume that you swore some kind of oath to serve and protect, no matter where your duties may take you. Its the same way I swore to defend the people and the constitution of the united states of america from all enemies, foriegn and domestic who may seek to cause harm in any way shape or form when I enlisted in the Corps. Obviously different circumstances, but in the same spirit. At least that's the way I see it.

Alright, I'm climbing down off my soap box now and quit rambling :secret:
Sorry if I got a little patriotic for your tastes, but that was the best way I could think of to summerize my thoughts.

Good opportunity but dangerous as hell.

Career wise I would say yes as it would show that you can do many things that upper managment needs done. When it comes time for a promotion it would look good having experience in different areas. Wich is always good.
As far as family goes I would say no, and heres why. My uncle was with the state troopers and started out just doing the everyday stuff, but than one day they asked him to do some under cover work. He did it and loved it. The bad part was after awhile he was pretty much living a double life with no time for the family. Long story short this lead to a divorce and 15-20 years later he's still doing the same stuff or last I heard and is not married. My aunt has remaired but it was a difficult time for her.

definitely once in a lifetime...damn dude, i can understand where your girl is coming from, i wouldnt want my bf going out doing that. but if you're a risk taker, and adrenaline junkie, go for it. ultimately its up to you though.

Seems like a chance to move up the career ladder and on to bigger and better things in the future (if you decide to) It wouldnt hurt to have on the resume if a promotion became avaliable. Go along for the ride, but be careful!

How many citizens live in your county? If it's a lower number I would say no. Chances are they already know you are a cop. If it is a heavily populated area, then I say maybe. With you being their nationality as well (especially as the only cop of this type), they may have already noticed you. Kind of a touchy issue man. I say do what your gut instinct says to do.

I say you are in a position with a unique set of skills and have been given a unique opportunity. You already know all the risks which is why you do what you do. I say man up and go do your thing and kick some ass! I know if it was me I would. Good luck either way.

This is where you'll have to pick between your job and your personal life. Your choice.

Depends on your goals and beliefs. Did you join the force wanting to be a detective or just a police officer?

If you live in a big town, you'll probibly be good. If its a small town... No.

I think it sounds like a nice opportunity, but just weigh out the pro's and con's of this. Figure out what you want to do, and base your decision off that. Not what a bunch of people on the internet think. If you want to do it, more power to you... If not, police officers and military members are still true hero's imho.

Good luck man, and just make sure you chose whatever you believe is best for YOU and dont do it to satisfy anyone else.

I'm not trying to PC here, but if anything happens to you I don't want anyone coming back here and seeing a poll with all of us telling you to do it.

The poll can stay, but I'd prefer you to state that any decisions you make are yours and were made by you, just in case.

I say fucking do it. If you do well, I bet you can move up the chain quicker. How many guys can put that kind of thing on their resume?

Dont worry bout liability man, I am just looking for perspectives of people "looking in from the outside". Its all good, and I got some time to figure out what I will do. Thanks, im taking it all in...

BTW, what is "PC"?

I think it would be kind of cool. i was always a fan of 21 jump street which did a lot of what you'r talking about only on a younger level (high school and college gangs, drugs, etc)

i say dont cuz it would suck if things went south an something bad happend. You seem happy now, and life is good. No need to take a chance that could be life changing when ur life is great. But the decision is all urs and i think ur girl should have somewhat of a opinion in the matter, that u should think about respecting. But it should all boil down to ur choice.

POPO,
My personal input is, You have an awesome passion about your career! This passion is what allows you to be the OFFICER you are, from my perspective and observation, past conversations between us. You have a great opportunity to expand and i commend your drive to do so, with all due respect to your Lady she will just have to understand.....Being An OFFICER is not just a job it is a way of life and she is involved in this life but not your job...It's very tough to be an OFFICER and in a relationship but i feel you are headed in the right direction all will be fine, your LADY will get used to the newer aspects of your detail.....LOL, knowing the little bit i know about you thus far i will say you are going to do this job(your mind is made up ;)) much respect to you!

Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): Here's your jacket.
[helps Roach put his jacket on]
Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): Johnny, hand me that bag of money.
Johnny Utah (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000206/): [getting the bag] You're cold because all of the blood is running out of your body, Roach. You're gonna be dead soon. I hope it was worth it.
Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): Don't listen to him, he's just scared.
[helps Roach put his parachute pack on]
Roach (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001457/): What the fuck are you looking at?

Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): Goddamn! You are one radical son of a bitch!

Nathanial (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0679904/): Lawyers don't surf.
Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): This one does.

Johnny Utah (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000206/): Bohdi! This is your wakeup call I AM AN F... B... I AGENT!
Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): I know, isn't it wild!

Johnny Utah (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000206/): [analyzing a hair sample] The beaches are always being closed because of waste spills, right? And surfers are territorial, they stick to certain breaks. If we can get some hair samples, and get a match to a certain beach, we'd know which break the Ex-Presidents surf. You buyin' this?
Pappas (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000997/): No. But let's do it anyway; it'll drive Harp crazy.

Pappas (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000997/): [of Johnny, after the last robbery] Don't ride him in with the black and whites like some punk, let *me* ride him in.
Ben Harp (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001525/): Yeah sure, Angelo, why not? That is why I put you 2 screw-ups to begin with. You deserve each other, don't you? You're just as bad as he is, though you're a little fatter, a little slower and a little more pathetic. For Christ sake, it's like the blind leading the blind with you.
Pappas (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000997/): Harp, I want to tell you something. I was in this bureau when you were still popping zits on your funny face and jerking off with the lingerie section of the sears catalog.
Ben Harp (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001525/): Is that right, Pappas?
Pappas (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000997/): Yes, that's right "Harp", and out of all these years, I have learned something that you still haven't got.
Ben Harp (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001525/): Yeah? Why don't you astonish me, shitface?
Pappas (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000997/): [punches Harp in the face] Respect for my elders.

Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): [during a skydiving game of chicken with Johnny, both falling with no parachute open] Six seconds. We're going to be meat waffles.

Johnny Utah (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000206/): I went to law school - I got a football scholarship!

Bodhi (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000664/): Look at it! It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, man! Let me go out there and let me get one wave, just one wave before you take me in. I mean, come on man, where I am I gonna go? Cliffs on both sides! I'm not gonna paddle my way to New Zealand! Come on, compadre. Come on!

IM MOCHA

Never heard of the mocha gang???

Jk man.
Undercover work is kinda like drinking, as long as it doesn't control your life, your good. Just remember, it's your job, not your life. Make sure you have a full understanding about how everything is going to work; a game plan as you may. What do you have to do to become a member? Certain gangs require you to take a beating for several minutes, while others piss, puke, and shit on you (not really into that). I assume you have another inside guy to get you "in" (I hope you can trust him or her). Be carefull, and like I said, get a good game plan worked out so you know what your getting into ( Im sure you already know this.) UC work is hard on a relationship man, but so is being a police officer. If it's what you want to do, I'd say go for it. Plus, you will gain a ton of street knowledge.
