What are the govenors set at for top speed on a 97 Z28 M6? The deal is this, the car had a hypertech programmer in it, the top speed was set @ 128 & the speedo was currect, now that i've takin the program out of the PCM, the speedo is around 12-13 fast because of the 4.10s, but ever sence i removed the hypertech, it is shutting down (or trying too) in 4th. gear @ or around 110-115 on the speedo (while racing at the track), it has done this on the last 2 outings every pass, i thought it might have been something else, but tonight, i paid closer attention to what is was doing, & thats what it definitly feels like is happening, just like you are turning the key on/off.

If the car came from the factory with Z-rated tires, it shouldn't have a limiter. Do you still have the hypertech? If so, you should be able to increase the limiter...

Some cars came without Z rated tires, a 110mph speedometer and a ~118mph governor. The rest came with Z rated tires, a 155mph speedometer abd a ~156mph governor. That's the best I can remember off the top of my head, the mph's might be a couple off.

It is, but what the op was talking about was top speed limitor. Back in the dizay some of our cars came with Z rated tires wich didnt have a mph limit on them. Some of the others did not have have this option and were limited to around 110-115 due to the tire rating. Its very easy to spot on A4 cars b/c there shifter wont let them manually down shift to a lower numerical gear.

I'm sure this is the case on mine, because the other owner bought the hypertech programmer & Z rated tires along with other high speed handling suspention mods, so this explains why its shutting down between 110-115.

LOL, i wish, its actually only going 101-102 trapping, but because of the 4.11s the speedo is @ 115 or there abouts (about 12-13 mph off), the limiter is programmed off the speedo through the PCM, if it was off the "ACTUAL" speed of the car, i would be fine seeing its only going 101-102 in the 1/4.

yep your car did not come with z rated tires. Neither did my 97 formula M6. but it did have the 155 speedo. HPPs work great for changing the rev limiter,MPH limiter, speedo for gear & tire height changes setting the fan switches, shift points on auto and shift firmness.
The power tuning is questionable but unless you have it tuned. Hpp is the best and easiest way to change that stuff. That said once you have it custom tuned a HPP wont work anymore.
Once I had Ed wright do my custom tunning I used the HPP to raise the rev limiter. It did raise it but I could not change it again or remove the HPP tuning.

I had to take the HPP tune conpletely out to sell it, so the next guy could use it on his car, i also took off the Gran MAF & went back to a stock screened unit, the car actually runs stronger then before, i'm running a manual switch for the fans, i know now i need a tune, my 1st. choice is MadZ.

I am guessing I have a governed at 156 one then... I have hit 140 in my car with no problems... I probably had the Z-rated tires, I still have the original tires too, maybe I'll go check later... :finger:

I think my limiter is around 108-110 also, my speedo reads 155 though.
