alright... kinda a long story..
i was getting gas in my car and i always go to the same pump everytime i get gas.. so today i pull up to get gas and i go into pay. (they pump the gas for you) and i looked up at the octane rating and it said 91 so i think im good.. and i come back out after putting 20 bucks worth of desiel in my car. i did not know this at the time. so i was drivingand right in front of the gas station my car starts almost like missing and stuttering. i pull back in and it dies. so the guy that pumped my gas comes over and says "hmm i was wondering why you had me put desiel in there" i was like WTF man?.. so im wondering if i can get them to pay me back my 20 bucks.. i know its not much. but i just want to go in there and bitch at them lol good question for you popo :D
been a long day
just bitching bassically lol.

Uhm I really hope you drain your system immediately and don't run it at all until it's flushed.
Diesel will ruin a gas engine.
And btw diesel nozzles don't usually even fit in a gas filler tube.
I'm hoping you're not trolling right now

trolling? and yes its flushed. and it runs now. it is the same nozzle as they used for premium in the summer times.. why i have no idea. everyother gas station i see uses green nozzles for desiel

Sorry just seemed like an odd post, my apologies.
The guy prolly should've asked you before hand if you really wanted diesel

That's weird, I remember my friend accidentally grabbed a diesel nozzle before and it wouldn't fit her tank.

i Have a diesel f250 and the hole in the fill neck is huge as is the diesel nozzle at the station. I could in theroy put gasoline in the tank by accident, but the Diesel pumps here in DE are usually seperated from the gas pumps. Also Diesel has a CETANE rating not OCTANE and the max i ever see for on road regular diesel is 48, 55 for Priemium. You should immediatly flush the tank. Your injectors, rails and lines al need to be flushed too. I would chech with your loacal division of weighs and measures. They certify gas station pumps. I recall that you can not as a station owner mix diesel into a gasoline storage tank and use the pump. I would ask the athoritis on that one, you may have a case then. Especially if the pump is not marked withthe CETANE rating and still has gasoline Octane ratings on it.

So you accidently pumped diesel fuel into your T/A? Or did the gas attendant??

I remember a few years ago when they started to put smaller gas filler openings on cars that used unleaded gas. That was to prevent lead getting to the converters. I personally have never seen a diesel nozzle the same size as an unleaded nozzle. I have put many, many gallons of diesel in my Dodge truck (225,000 miles, maybe 13000 gallons) all over the country and just don't recall the nozzles being interchangeable. But I've been wrong once before.

The pumps that I use would be pretty hard to mix up, as Im fairly sure the diesel nozzle would not fit in my car. The diesel nozzles are supposed to be at least marked yellow or green, rather than the standard black of a normal gas nozzle.
Its different everywhere I go though, there doesnt seem to be any real standard with it.
Other things you realize when you fill both all the time :
- Smell completely different.
- Sound different when filling (diesel is thicker, more like oil).
- Usually diesel pumps are much higher flow than gas, to accomodate trucks with 100+ gallon tanks.
- Cetane/Octane ratings are usually indicated right on the pump, as described above. This makes it easy to tell (If, of course, they decide to mark them properly).

Back in the day when I pumped gas at a local general store, the nozzle was the same size, now they are different (around here anyway.) Maybe they were different and the kid found a way to pump it in. It's hard to tell about people these days. The worst thing I ever did pumping gas was, one time a nice black 5.0 mustang stopped by, I pumped his gas and the handle didn't click off. Gas went all down the side of his car. I tried to clean if off but I was afraid I would scratch the paint. Made me feel like a big tool even though it wasn't really my fault.

id get the attendant or company to pay you back for sure, you're lucky it didnt do more damage, something similar happened to my buddys dodge 1/2, apparently the guy put diesel in it and this kid didnt know, he claims it fucked his engine and got the gas station to pay for a crate 318

at least diesel is a gas is not nearly as bad as gas in a diesel. just make sure you change the fuel filters also.

i used to work for a local heavy duty parts store, delivering parts all around south of our store. our diesel pumps are not near the gas pumps, but the truck had a normal tank, and the nozzles for that plus the big ones for a larger truck. it was the auto diesel lane. seeing as how there are vw bugs and jetta's pulling up there often, somone could think that was gas and pump the wrong thing if they were just following suite. Thats possible here anyway. unless i am mistaken and the nozzle is slightly larger and not quite the same size, i can check if someone wants. let me know.
sorry for the long post.

not to sound like a dick here but ive worked at several gas stations when i was younger and im willing to guarantee you they do not use the same tank for diesel and premium,,they would be shut down very quickly by the inspectors that that pop in during the year(dont remember their name) you can not keep diesel in a tank for winter and then premium in the summer..i too have never seen a diesel nozzle that wasnt bigger than the gas nozzles,,pretty sure its an epa regulation type of thing,,which is funny because it allows you to put gas into a diesel but not diesel into a gas,,any gas station that you think any of that is a possibility is a gas station i would be staying away from
i found it interesting that after all that you only wanted your 20 bucks back??your gasoline running lt1 with new cam and valvetrain now has 20 bucks worth of diesel in it which could cause tremendous damage but you only wanted the 20 bucks back??,,im a little confused

it may look the same but next time you go pull up to the diesel pump and see if it fits in your cars filler hole,,with a franchise like hess im willing to say no it doesnt

the car runs fine now....... that is why i dont need more than the 20 bucks. all i was out of was time to drain the tank... i dunno if its the same tank but its the same nozzle... and it still says 91 on the pump.

if the pump still says 91 octane on it i would turn their ass in. On the pump there should be a certification sticker with the name of the division that inspects pumps. Apparently this stations attendant is not too bright, he will probally do it to someone else. On out far we have off road diesel and gas. We Can Not mix the tanks up. Once the tanks has diesel in it, you can not re fill with gas.. and vice versa. Even though we are a farm we dont get inspections for accuracy of the pump since no money changes hands, but we do have tank inspections.
