Yesterday I got home from fixing my peer's laptops for 6 hours (on top of my final for my Winter Course and doing some web development at my normal job) to a unresponsive laptop. After 3-4 hours of diagnosis and research I determined that my personal laptop's motherboard/GPU was fried. :(
Now I'm parting out my old laptop and I have a new HP ordered. Should have it by the end of the month. Guess that what I get from "profiting" from fixing my peer's computers, though I'm severely underpaid. I only do it for the resume builder.
Fedex tried to deliver some go fast parts to me today, but none of my roommates were home. One of them should've been but he had to run rent by the landlord. :(

So i didnt think a back lit keyboard would be necessary until I got my work laptop. Now i wish my personal XPS had it. :(

Should be a bit more peppy than my current XPS M1210 (1.83 GHz c2d, gef 7400, 250gb 5400rpm, 2.5GB, etc.) I'm out a little over $300 after parting out my XPS. I'm going to order another 2GB stick soon, I couldn't justify spending $80 on 4GB when it comes with 1 Dimm of 2GB. I'm not paying HP $40 to install a stick of RAM.

I used to build my own, but now they build a decent workhorse for a good price. This is my first HP. I've never bought a desktop, and I've taken my previous Dell apart a few times. I'm very picky when it comes to computers. It had to be atleast 12" but no bigger than 14" and it had to be pretty peppy. Now it's no match for my Q9550 @ 3.6GHz desktop, but it should be able to multi-task and do everything I need my laptop to do. A good buddy of mine has this laptop, and he says it plays 1080p and 720p high definition movies pretty well. That, paired up with the HDMI port should be pretty awesome. Also the 13.3" LED screen looks gorgeous.
This is a personal laptop, I pretty much expect to be given a "business laptop" at any job straight out of college, if not I should be making more than enough money to buy one strictly for work.

my Desktop is a HP. it is a p6130y. AMD Phenom X4 9750 / 2.4 GHz , 8 gig ram, lightscribe, wireless, etc.. It was relativly cheap(around 600 bucks on sale) and was a free win 7 upgrade. I too am picky, but for a work horse the family uses it was better than piecing toghther another one. back in the old days I had an overclocked, water cooled P3 running about 950 MhZ.. LOL was my "Gaming CPU"
Dont expect the company you go to work for to give you anything. It may be one of these:

http://oldcomputers.net/pics/powerbook-right.jpgMy first computer completely mine (bought by me, completely built by me, etc.) was a AMD 1.4GHz "t-bird" I think it had 256MB of ram and a geforce 2. I've had a wide array of setups since then (I usually upgrade a little at a time) My current computer is pretty powerful but it's by no means a i7 with dual GTX295's or anything  Just a Q9550 with 4GB of 1066 Ram, a 8800GTS, dual 1080p monitors and multiple terabytes of storage space. :secret:
I've already seen what my internship this summer provides for their IT team. It's nothing top of the line, but pretty decent.
