Started installing my new stock opti today and the darn cap cracked around the perimeter when I torqued the 3 opti bolts down to the valve cover:claps:. I swear I had the darn thing flush against the valve cover. I had the correct hole lined up into the dowel pin. Its possible that it slid out? I didn't notice the cracks until I turned the crank over with a torque wrench installing the dampener. Any advise for installing the new one?

Below is a few pics of the one that failed at over 140,000 miles. The bearings felt worn, and the rotor bolts had backed out. Pretty sure thats why the thing failed. I also noticed some wear on the front side of the cap.

I would just make sure that it is, in fact, flush when you go to install it. The pin should be master-keyed and should only fit in one way. Once you get that right, everything should be a piece of cake. How tight did you get it? I'm not sure about opti torque specs, but I can't imagine it being a whole lot. You might have just over-tightened it.

Summit is shipping me a new one. I test fit the old one, and found that you have to play around with it alot to slide the darn thing in. When I get the replacement, I want to install lock tight on the rotor screws so they don't back out again. I'll be able to turn the rotor when the cap is off to make sure I get a good seat. Then I'll bolt the cap back on the Opti once the opti is bolted down.
