Again, lots of discussion on the 4.120" sleeves on the Advanced Tech forum of CamaroZ28 over the years. Looking at some of the old posts, I see comments from Sean ( @Fastbird ).One thread has a link to a CZ28 post by someone who claimed he had a 427 LT1 done with the 4.120 x 4.00 dimensions. Unfortunately, everything before 2002 seems to have been purged from the site. But again, there seems to be evidence that it has been done, a long time ago.

Mine's 414 cubes. Easy to do if you pick the correct parts. You need a small base circle cam, and I-beam rods so the big end isn't as fat as an H-beam. My block is clearanced no more than a regular 383. You could build a 408 (4.030"x4.000") and have plenty of meat.
Just for shits and grins I talked to the guys at my local machine shop. I got them a part number for a Dart SHP sleeve. They seemed to think that they could put them into an LT1 block without too much trouble, and they were eager to try. Now for the cost, lol. The sleeves were about $80 each, so that's $640 for them. Then it's roughly $80-$100 per hole to install them, so $800 right there. Then you have to align the mains, and bore/hone the block which is $500-$600. Clearance the block and other odds and ends and you're looking at $2200-$2500 and they weren't 100% sure that they could do it.'94 coupe, 10.15 at 133.65 414" LT1, 4500 stall, n/a, pump gas, mufflers, street trim

I did 3.875" crank and 4.030" bore for 396. Like joelster said before if you go with connecting rods designed for it and small base circle camshaft there is cubes to be had. The problem I had was not the oil pan rail clearance but the bottom of the cylinder. To really go after cubes you have to clearance so much from the bottom of the cylinder to allow the shoulder of the connecting rod to make it with the larger stroke. I had H-beams, not ideal for stroking it.
My machinist said he thought he could get a 4" stroke in there with the right parts. Probably would have had to hardblock the bottom of the water jacket to prevent leaks. That combined with a 4.120" bore will get you 427".
I have sonic tested a couple of LT1 blocks and found ~.200" material in the thinnest spots. .080" wall thickness is cutting it thin, but nothing that a machinist hasn't done before.
Even if you couldn't get a 4" stroke in there, a custom crankshaft (super expensive) could be ordered for 3.95" or so and would get you almost there.
As for the whole liner thing, BIGCAT talked about doing it, it is something that racers will do, too expensive to me though.68 Mechanical Alcohol Injected LT1.

Just for laughs, my BBC bowtie block is at 4.625" bore and 4.5" stroke. There is still room for a little more stroke and up to around 4.680" pistons. I'm currently at 605 Cubic IN, but could get up to around 620 if I really went after it.
