Here is tonights doings. Spare block is in the car for fabrication. I have a guessing game that goes along with putting the block in. How did I get it in there without a funtionable engine hoist? No chains where used either.

Also a pic of the #7 piston with the missing ring land

Some more progress tonight, and a few notes about installing a ZFs6-40 transmission into an F body @Fastbird . It will fit with a couple of minor alterations to the floor pan.

    1. The shifter sits back and to the left of where the stock t56 shifter sits. It's not very far, but it's enough to cause problems. I'm not anticipating having to cut very much out of the trans tunnel at this point.

    2. The Skipshift/reverse lock out (whatever the brass solenoid is on the driver side of the trans) either has to be removed or you need to give your floorpan a notch job or some bfh love. I chose to remove enough of it to stop it from hitting.

    3. The slave cylinder port just ever so slightly grazes the floor pan. A little bfh action should clearance it enough if you are not converting to a hydraulic throwout bearing.

    4. Other than item 3, the bellhousing fits like it belongs there. I had no other clearance issues nor did I have a problem getting to any of the bolt hole locations. Granted it's just a block in an empty engine bay, but it still fits like it should. Again, other than item 3, no clearance issues were noted.

The Zf is a taller trans but the way it bolts to the bell housing, it doesn't stick up into the trans tunnel any further than the t56 does, the bottom of the ZF hangs a little lower. Looking at it now, I my build a set of SYA bars for the trans once I get everything positioned.

I won't know for sure until I get everything fabbed up and the car back on the ground. The trans is sitting pretty well up in the trans tunnel, so preliminarily, I will say that it shouldn't be THAT big of an issue with the taller case height. Hell, if I dropped the engine down an inch lower into the car, it would pretty much alleviate all the clearance issues other than needing to modify the shifter hole because of the shifter location.

Eitherway the trans will be in the car tomorrow. Once I get the shifter clearance, it's just finagling to get the rest of the bolt holes to line up. You can't see it in the pics I posted, but I have one bolt started.
