I've read they flow about the same, but the velocity flow is better. The valve center line is better then the 227's. You do have to run a offset shaft .450 offset and a .150-.180 offset lifter as well. But that's just what I've gathered. Never known of anyone running them.

I would really like to know which is a better head, the raised runner or the 227's. I'm starting to think it might not matter because those raised runners are gone. Can't find a set anywhere.

I did find this quote with a little looking
Tony Mamo: "The bulk of the reason why a raised-runner head usually shows better results than a non-raised-runner head is that its straighter intake ports make it easier for air to negotiate the short-turn radius. What you might find interesting is our new 235cc SBC head is a non-raised-runner design, and has already made more power on the dyno than a larger-but-older AFR raised-runner head

So you might look into have a set of the 235s converted for LT1 use if you want to push the envelopeLast edited by Chopstix; 02-19-2014 at 10:47 AM.

Last I heard Tony runs converted afr 235's. Stefan runs afr 215rr with a modified 18* intake.
And rr are better than conventional port. The only downside is if you run a class that prohibits the use of the rr head and cost.

I do not recommend 235's unless you have at least a 4.125 bore size. That is the bore size they were designed for. The valves are shrouded with these heads on our measles 4.030 bore. They work well but not to its potential with the shrouded valves.
