could be anything man... we need nore detail.
20-30 Isnt low... LT1s are acceptable by gm to idle at 7-10psi.
With that being said...it should increase 10psi with every 1k of rpm.
Now... what weight oil is he running? NOT that it matters if he has started hearing a knock... but if he is hearing a knock...and he is continuing to drive it.... its going to be done.

Like popo said it can be anything.
You need to start with the basics.
Does he have enough oil?
Are there any oil leaks?
When was the last oil change?
Is the oil pressure sender in working condition?ASE L1 Master Certified Tech's 9C1 T56. Yeah she's got a big butt. But watch her move it.

If you're driving around without oil pressure then your bearings will be toast in a matter of seconds.

If its no pressure you will hear the valvetrain. No valvetrain noise i would start with the sensor and if its not that then bearings are going and its just going to go downhill fast.

He says it stays at the line above zero while driving and it has no leaks

When you say "the line above 0" does that mean it's at the 1/4th tick mark or it's barely above 0? Makes all the world of difference. If it seemed low and then all the sudden dropped to 0, I would expect that the oil pickup tube fell off and the oil pump is sucking air and/or the oil pump's drive gear got shredded. I had both happen to me while I was out cruising my car. Seemed kind of low and then when I went to head home I realized I had 0 oil pressure. Turns out the pickup tube fell off and for whatever reason I had brittle pieces of the oil pan gasket floating in my oil that got sucked up into the oil pump, jammed the impellers of the pump, and caused the cam to completely shred the oil pump drive gear.
