Default 56K Beware, painted Quick Performance 9" housing, center, and QP TA Mount + Pillarpod

I started painting these yesterday but ran out of daylight to take final pics so they are indoor and not that great. The final pics are in my basement where it's pretty dusty and please excuse the mess lol. Had to throw the stuff in the basement because we got rain today. Also, I'm no professional painter so don't hate too much lol. I decided to paint the rear, torque arm mount, and center because I didn't want to pay to have them powder coated and wanted them to hold up to the elements. I was ready to go but forgot painter's tape and decided to proceed without it. For those who ask why I didn't use the regular Eastwood chassis paint instead of just the primer - I could not find it locally and waited long enough with the crappy weather lately. The place I got the primer from only had one can left and was 45min away.

Here are the products I used:
1x can of Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black Primer

2x cans of Krylon Dual Primer & Flat Black

2x cans of Krylon Fusion Clear

1x can of Brake Cleaner for wiping down the parts to free them of grease or other contaminants. Worked well!

1x pack of Harbor Freight microfiber towels, wiped down the parts after spraying the brake cleaner on them.

First, the Glowshift triple gauge pillar pod. This was a cheap pillar that came with a cheap looking gloss finish. It will fit 3 52mm or 2 1/16" gauges. I bought this from Amazon previously, but picked up the Glowshift Fuel Pressure, Nitrous Pressure, and Wideband gauges from Gail @ American Powerhouse who I usually hit up for stuff when shopping for car parts. The goal was to tone down the gloss a bit but still give it a factory look.

I gave it two coats of flat and a mist of clear.

Next, the center section. This is a 9" center and I can't say I'm too sure what it's out of. I tried running the numbers but was not very successful and could have been looking up the wrong #'s. It is complete with a 31 spline posi and 4.10 gears. Spins nice but will be rebuilt before going in.

I spent a lot of time prepping this because of how FILTHY it was. The third member was removed from it's housing and was never touched, literally ever. It is at least 20-30 years of caked on grease and grime. Using some old penetrating oil and a screwdriver, I was able to chip away at most of it. What I couldn't get off was removed with a wire brush. After it all was removed, I hit it with two heavy coats of Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black Primer, 3x coats of flat black and finally 2x coats of clear. The primer is a semi gloss finish so switching to a flat black paint was nice for coverage purposes. Then the clear restores the gloss finish.

The 9" is a Quick Performance Fabbed housing with I purchased for $1050 shipped with 31 spline Moser axles. It's a nice unit for the price.

I used 3x coats of Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black, 3x coats of flat black, and 2x coats of clear. Since it's so awkward, I had if laying on a board on the bolt pattern and between coats I'd stand it up and do the underside. Some runs but who cares, it's a rear.

AFTER: (sorry, it sat outside for a couple hours and has a layer of pollen/dust on it plus the flash doesn't help)

If I had to do it over again, I probably would have skipped the flat black and clear and went right for the Eastwood Chassis Black and that was it. I've used rattle can paint + clear in the past on wheels and stuff with good success and had them on hand, so I went that route. Sorry for the lack of quality pics, outside the parts look awesome. The old Samsung Galaxy S3 camera/flash does not do it justice. But, I wanted to show off the painted result.

Some people do still use 56k lol. The house I live (grew up in it then bought it) in didn't have high speed until the last 3 years or so. Hard to believe!

Thanks Larry, that is great to know! You're not too far from me so if I ever plan on buying more, I think I'd take a road trip. Probably wouldn't go the aerosol route next time unless it is small parts. I'd love to coat the bottom of all my cars! But that's a bit hard to do without a lift
