Since the oil pump driveshaft has nothing to keep it perpendicular to the drive gear it will not sit straight up and down in the hole. Try positioning the driveshaft with a long screwdriver through the oil galley hole while wiggling the drive gear.

If the engine is out of the car this is much easier, however it can still be done.

Default GM oil pump drive gear

Has anyone had trouble getting the cam and oil pump drive shaft to line up on install?
I'm using the LT4 Hotcam and Gm #19052845 I can get the drive gear and cam gear to line up but not the oil drive shaft.

Uh...you already have a thread about this...? Asking again won't really help you.

    Check this out: http://ltxtech.com/forums/showthread...l=1#post209708

Set the groove for the drive shaft facing either front to rear of the engine or side to side. The position the drive gear with its mating grove the same way as the drive shaft. Slide it down into the block, feeling it out. If it doesn't mate up. Slowly and carefully pull the gear back out, and move it one tooth in either direction. Continue until it mates. If it wont mate with tooth adjustments either your doing it wrong of something is not the right size.

Sorry about the double post, I'm just freaking out about this whole situation! I'm going to try to get the gear in tonight!
If I can't get it I'll post on THIS thread.

Would it be a good idea to take out the oil pump drive shaft from the top of the motor?
