Thread: rear suspension info...

I guess what I'm not getting is at what angle do the LCAs need to be at, I'm not talking about a specific amount of degrees. Higher on the body side, lower on the axle side? or reverse? At the stock height (assuming LCAs at stock angle) the relocation brackets with increase this angle, is this what we want? this should move the "instant center" much further back.

At the stock height some cars are almost level which is not good. You want the body side higher than the axle side. Relocation brackets are a MUST on lowered cars and needed to correct the geometry on stock height cars. In stock form our instant center is generally out so far in front of the car weight transfer is nearly impossible. Relocation brackets will bring the IC closer to the rear of the car. Ideally most of our cars will like the IC around the driver and passenger seat area. There is no set location since every car is different.

So should I have purchased relocation brackets with my lcas. Because I have no intention of lowering my car at all.

from what i have understood, brackets will help more with the geometry of the LCA part of the suspension, aftermarket LCA will increase that even more because of lack of flex vs the stock LCAa. Ultimatily both need to be done.
I am going the other order. I just got a set of BMR non-adjustable LCA (because the price) and plan on getting relocation brackets when I get my welder. Mostly becuase its another reason i "need" a welder to justify getting it, the welder.
There is a growing list of welding projects. saving up for a good MIG.78 Z28:406ci roller, w/ Tremac 5 spd

Awesome post and awesome write up, Josh, thank you for sharing! Admittedly, I knew I was doing a rear end swap and I bought the LCAs, relocation brackets, and the PHB just because "I knew I should" but I didn't know why. I learned why as I installed each part, but your post makes a ton of sense!
