.26 head gasket worth it?
I noticed I had a coolant leak and found the headgasket seaping out the rear of the head.... WTF??
Anyways if im gonna have to pull the heads I was wondering if its worth it to go with the Victor 5898 .026 headgasket
Ive read through alot of threads but no one really says if it will help any or if the comp will be to high.
I figure id ask the knowledgeable LT1 people here

I'm running those with the hotcam kit, just run premium and you'll be ok.

Very much depends on the rest of your build. If you're otherwise stock, then the thinner HG is good for a few ponies. If you're running anything other than stock - do the math on your static and dynamic compression ratios and then determine if you can take the extra compression. I was right on the jagged edge with my cam and tried the .026 gasket. Ran fine up until the ambient temps got hotter and then I had loads of detonation. Ended up pulling it and putting in a thicker HG to stay in the safe-zone.

Also I always run 93 of course, I know some places only have 91 if that matters

OP
on stock heads & block the .026 will be OK
For rebuilt motors with heads & block that have been decked, new pistons, higher lift cam you need to do the math not only on compression but also PTV clearance and use .xxx thick head gasket to get ideally 35ish quench. Head gasket thickness is part of that equation96 BBB 383/T56
