    Default Voltage gauges

.... okay so after deleting the PCM because I went carburetor. The only thing that works on my gauge cluster is the fuel level and we all know have accurate those are lol .... so I took the plug for the alternator off the wiring harness and I was going to connect that to a voltage gauge. When I did that I didn't get any voltage reading at all if I check at the post I see 12 volts ... so I know this is probably a stupid question but to get the voltage gauge working.

can I just go off the battery or does it have to come off the alternator? Today I removed it and took it to an auto parts store to have it tested and it tested fine

pretty sure your alternator needs a gauge in line or a resistor to charge without the pcm on the exciter wire

You could wire it to the same wire on your ignition switch that go to the coil. So it will only be on with the key.

470 ohm resistor inline to the battery or ignition hot.

Here's the wiring diagram. If you still have the stock cluster the volts gauge should still be working. Check the "Gages" fuse.

I'll check it when I get home but I'm pretty sure that the fuses good. I want to be able to monitor my voltage in case something happens of course.
But now I'm beginning to wonder will the alternator do its job if its connected with the wire on those back going to the battery
And the single wire going into the plug not hooked up

that's what we are telling you, either hook a gauge or resistor to the single wire and power, otherwise it won't charge

Looks like there's a terminal marked L on the back of the alt that goes to stock cluster and your not using that right?

battery positive to switch, other side of switch to resistor or gauge, then to that little wire with plug into alternator. it's not that hard, there's no fuses or relays inline
