Thermostat delete or keep
Today I I'm working on the electrical part of the car and replacing a fuel pressure gauge with water temperature gauge. Which got me to thinking about water temperatures for my car and how hot I think it will really get. With this car being carbureted instead of fuel injected that might have a factor in my decision but ultimately a cooler motor will make more horsepower. So for being a car that's not going to see extensive driving on the streets like cruises or road trips mainly going to be drag racing do I really need to run a thermostat? ... the vehicle has an electric water pump some people were talking about restrictor plates as I was reading. I'd like for some of y'all to weigh in on this please.

Never run anything without a thermostat. There shouldn't be any debate. Just run a cooler one. It's like a traffic cop sort of for your cooling system.

A cold motor doesn't always make more power than a correct temperature one either.
Run a 160/180* statCorrelation does not imply causation.

I had a 160 in it before and it ran about 180 ... I would always get a little nervous when it ran 200 plus as it approaches the boiling temperature of water it just makes me nervous

Zoo
run a 160 stat and have PCM programed to turn on fans lower than stock temp
if your motor is Carb now and not using a PCM than just get a inline temp switch to turn fans on at desired temp
but run a stat. you can buy ones that fail "open"96 BBB 383/T56
