    Default 97 camaro overheating

    Ok so I'm still working on getting my 30th anniversary back on the road. So when I put a new motor in it i got a corvette long block. The sensor for the water temp gauge is in the block vs the head are the calibrated different? My gauge is showing way hot but the motor itself doesn't seem that bad.

    Where on the block is the sensor? The Corvette 92-95 LT1 has a 3-pin oil temp sensor on the driver side of the block, toward the rear, at least that's what my Corvette Fuel Injection manual indicates. Is it possible that is what you connected to?

    My dash gage isn't on the mark and I pretty sure you cant rely on them to be . and isn't the fwd hole closer to the rad making it a warmer spot.

    Why not just put a new sensor in the driver's side head, like your stock F-Body LT1 setup? That's the best place for it. Overheating head is the first thing you should be concerned about.... detonation first, followed by blown head gasket.

    How many pins did the sensor in the block have? Was it located above the oil filter? If it had more than one pin, which pin on the sensor did you connect your stock single wire harness connector to? What is "way hot" in actual numbers? .... when the engine is started cold? ..... when the engine is fully warmed up?

    And then there's the second knock sensor (single pin) that the Corvette has in the block drain hole on the driver side of the engine. Is that possibly what you connected to?

    Ok so I'm connected to something that is under and just a little to the back of the number 5 spark plug. And I can't find a bud to screw out to put it back in the head

    All LT1/LT4 factory heads have a port in the same place. When the head is on the driver side, that puts it between #1 and #2 spark plugs. When the head is on the passenger side, the port is between #6 and #8. It typically has a pipe plug in it on the F-Body on the passenger side.

    I found it. The plug wire holder was covering the plug. Thanks a lot man.
