275/40-17 vs 305/45-17
So i need new tires. Im looking into Mickey Thompson ET Street R bc i hear many good things about them. The car sees the track on occasion but i get there when i can.
My mods include LE TFS 2.5 heads and 234/244 .597/.614, 4l80e, 3800 stall, 3.73s and 150 plus nitrous.
So what would benefit me?
I know the 305 tire is a 28 inch tall tire with more sidewall. The are recommended for 9.5 inch wheels, i have a buddy who runs them on 9 inch rims and cuts 1.4 60s.
Im just lookingfor any experience with similar mods and tire diameters.
Id be happy with 1.6

Don't know where you got the 28" tall part from, but calculated out the 275/40 comes in at 25.7" in diameter and the 305/35 comes in at 25.4" diameter. It's shorter. A 315/35-17 would be 25.7 also. If you're running a stock SS wheel that's a 17x9 (based off your screen name) the 315 would be a tough fit and bulge a LOT, the 275/40 is what was stock. I wouldn't run the 305 as it's shorter than stock.

Just for reference, I am running Nitto Nt05r in 275/40-17 and cutting 1.6X 60ft's with completely stock ( cut coils for 1.5" drop) suspension with a cam and stall only full weight firebird

Ive ran the mickeys and they are a great tire. It was a 6speed car so 60ft wasn't what it would be with a auto.
like I said Im on the Nittos now and the only reason I went with them over the Mickeys was because I drive it on the street alot and they are MUCH better for daily driving (go slow if I get caught in the rain) I have NO wheel spin right now after a short burnout running 26psi with the Nt05rs, the only thing keeping me from a lower 60ft is power, Im sure I could get a 1.50 or even less with more power and suspension mods.
I know you didnt ask about nittos but just throwing that out there.

Lol, that 35 to 45 makes a little difference doesn't it?
I've had both Mickey's and Nitto's (NT555R and NT05R). Only used on street, but the hardest hooking of the bunch have been the NT05R, followed by the Mickey ET Street Radial, then the NT555R. I don't think you'd really go wrong with either the Mickey or NT05R.
