Just thought it would be worth checking other cyls to see if they were missing. Maybe just not enough to cause a cyl specific misfire code to set. Absence of missing in cyls other than #1 and #3 would tend to confirm a cross-fire issue. Cross-fire pretty much limits the causes to the Opti cap, or the two plug wires. More universal misfires might point to coil, ICM, Opti optical module.

thats a good thought, might do that before I pull it out.
I already called MSD and they gave me an RMA, kinda sucks since this one has less than 1-2k miles on it. I would have thought they would have checked the cap before sending it out.
Not sure if you watched the video of Cylinder #1, but everytime the light gets bright like on #3 is when it backfires97 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,

Agree, looks like it's cross-firing. But a quick check won't hurt.

So before I send this thing off to MSD, I decided to open it up and measure resistance and what not.
Keep in mind that I didnt install this thing (first and last time I let somebody else wrench on my car) so I was a little nervous based on the other "work" this mechanic did
The inside was in really rough shape, tons of rust, I have no idea where it was coming from

the first thing I noticed first time I opened the hood after they worked on it was that they didnt plug back in the fresh air vent, thinking this might be the cause.97 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,

our inside man (@96z28SideSwype) pm'ed me back the other day with MSD's findings
they found was that there was liquid inside the distributor which caused most of the internals to rust up, they also found nitric acid build up inside the distributor due to the fresh air lines not being hooked up. So they had to do a full rebuild on that unit.97 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,

I received the "rebuilt" MSD unit last week
I have to say it looks brand new, its stamped 12-2016, I know everyone was saying to go with a ACDelco unit, but I cant afford it right now.
I picked up a new water pump, and decided to put a tube in the weep hole and route it away from the opti, the hole is perfect for a 1/4" thread, I decided to go with a 1/4-28 because its more threads per inch and the threads are shallower than a 1/4-20, the tube I got was a KS precision metals 7/32 x .014 rod and it threaded and bent nicely

then I sealed it with copper rtv

Im going to run a hose from the tube down to the driver side of the engine near the sensor, so if I see drips there I know the pump is leaking
I also decided to attack my EGR flow code issue.
I pulled the EGR tube out of the header and it was tight so I am thinking the crush gasket is no longer sealing, I put copper rtv on it and reinstalled
Put it back together and took it for a drive, ran good, was a little hot, I think there are some air pockets still in the system, no more misfire at idle or at high load.
all the low end torque is back, revs good and smooth at all speeds
and no more CEL for the EGR!!!!97 Trans Am WS6, LT1 factory 4bolt freak, M6,
