Block decked. How much to cut the intake?
Karl built me another shortblock, and it was decked to 9.010, and I will be running the .026 headgasket. If my research is correct, this is a .015 difference between the OEM deck height, and a .013 difference in headgasket thickness. My total height difference is .028 - which is large enough to make intake sealing potentially problematic. Am I correct here?
If so, does the math works out to cutting .0336 off the face, and .0476 off the rails?
Thanks for your help
Edit: Pistons are .007 in the hole, so looking at a quench of .033 and 11.46:1 CR. Given the detonation issues I've been fighting, I may go to a thicker head gasket, tooLast edited by atlantadan; 05-20-2017 at 10:33 AM.

You'll be fine as is. It will bolt up and seal just fine.

Supporting Memberif you have an issue, and you are basically off by the thickness of the threads of the bolt, you can egg the hole in the intake out with a dremel, AS LONG AS you are getting a good impression on the gaskets showing they will seal. we had to do this when switching to LE ported trick flows from stock castings, after speaking to Lloyd about it. fit it up dry first and check it. but I think you'll be fine
