Default Upgrading to CC 306 cam and I have questions

    Hey all,

I'm currently running an LT4 hot cam and want to upgrade to the comp cams 306. Can someone tell me if I'll need new pushrods or anything else? I'm sure there is something I'm overlooking and don't want to go into this blind.

    Thanks!

When going with that cam and stock heads your not going to make optimal power or should i say... leaving power on the table. That cam needs compression and good flowing heads to make it work like it should. Other things you will need are better valvesprings that comp specs for that cam. Pushrods if you dont have hardened already you should put them in. You will need a taller gear and a stall converter if auto to get you in the powerband quicker. Lastly bigger injectors and a tune.

a new bottom end. the cc306 needs to be spun high, if you're not willing to spin it past 6000 rpm your car will most likely feel slower than it did with the hotcam

Thanks guys for the quick response. Would you suggest a cam that sounds like the 306 that would need less modifications? I'm running 3.73 gears, M6.

talk to Lloyd Elliott for a custom grind. me and @kitt8090 are both running the same Lloyd Elliott 227/235 cam and it sounds pretty healthy id say, I made 383whp limiting revs to 6200 and Weston made 367whp (stock heads)

Thanks! I was hoping to get a cam with a little more chop at idle. Really going for sound, not going for peak horsepower. Also don't want to damage parts though.

I keep thinking of the impala lol sorry

o.p. when my pops had the bullet cam I used in the impala, which was 228/234 592/592 on a 110lsa, I had a hotcam In my firebird. all other things equal, gears stall etc, I was quicker on the street until 100mph by half a car. i had my shifts set to 5800 with hotcam, he was set to 6300 and he would nose up a little then stay where he was. it was weird lol
