In regards to safety requirements for the shootout, all we tech at the event are the rules that the cars need to meet in order to run in the class you're registered. Safety has been and always will be up to the track officials to enforce. In years past, it has been very lax, but that can change any time. We are not going to send you home for a lack of equipment, but they might. Something to keep in mind

^ the no upgrades for pure stock is only on 2008 and newer. if you run any faster then 11.50 you need safety updates PERIOD. any mods even cat back and intake now on 2008+ technically voids the 10.00 rule.

Just to clarify, (and I know you personally know this, I'm just making a blanket statement), we as the ltx shootout event coordinators do not do nhra safety inspections on the cars. What we do is check that the cars fit the rules for the classes that they're entered in. The track officials are responsible for enforcing the safety standards they have set, not the ltx shootout.

I guess a dumb question but it's related.
Does adding a roll bar increase rigidity of the car? Like would it make the car handle on a road course better or would it make it worse.
