When was the house built?

2nd one would be suspect, however seems well encapsulated and if it's not deteriorating or fragmenting it's probably not worth disturbing. Like said above, if concerned have it tested. I have a feeling it's some type of mastic and not asbestos but it's hard to tell in pics

Supporting Memberyou do know a)it's on the outside of the duct sealing it and b)if you don't disturb it there's no issue. you need to ingest a LOT of asbestos fibres to even think of causing mesothelioma/cancer. I know many hvac guys with 30+ years in that are perfectly healthy, who repacked boilers back in the day every day for 10 years. that consisted of mixing dry asbestos in water solution and then smacking it in there by hand. if you think they wore dust masks you're wrong.
seriously, it's most likely fine, if it's not disturbed or flaking off. remediation is expensive

Have someone come out and look at it. They can see the condition better than we can. If it is asbestos but still in good shape, they will most likely suggest to have it encapsulated or sealed and leave it alone. It kinda looks like it has a relatively recent coat of something on it. The asbestos that I'm used to seeing has a more tan/yellowed look, probably from just being older.
