    Default Voltage gauge reading high

So after getting my car back together after several years of being on hiatus I have one problem that I can't seem to figure out. My voltage gauge is reading high, just below the red while running. With only the ignition on it is roughly 13. I checked voltage at the battery while running and get 13-14 both at the battery and from the distribution block to ground. The gauge does seem to operate as normal otherwise (moves when fans kick on or headlights are turned on). Any ideas would be a great help.

    Thanks.

You should be charging at 14.2-14.6 at least my cars and truck do.

Even at the dealership I work at... Good alternators have to be above 14 at idle......

these gauge clusters are notoriously inaccurate. my car does that on initial start and then the gauge calms down. I've checked battery with meter and it's right at 14.7 and alt is at 14.7

Sorry I just went out and checked and it is 14.7 while running on my fluke. The gauge looks like its a little high across the board. I don't remember it ever being like that and its really got me scratching my head. I tried finding a decent schematic of the wiring between the gauge and the alt/bat and have had no real luck.

stop worrying about it. the computer will throw a code if it's too high I believe. you could have my pops problems. new battery cables, new h.o. 200amp alt, new battery, pcm only sees 13.2 volts

I'm not worried about it. I would however like my gauge to read correct. I figure if someone had a moderately easy fix I would fix it.

those gauge clusters, like I said before, have been wrong since day 1 most of the time. I really don't know how you'd fix it to make it accurate, without replacing cluster as a whole
